MBTA Receives $67.6M from the FTA's All Stations Accessibility Program to upgrade 14 Green Line stops on the B and C branches to provide accessibility upgrades and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The MBTA won almost 20% of the available funds from the program. More...

Every day I wake up and say a prayer for my landlord’s wellbeing. $1650 for a 2bd1b on the red line. Duplex. Large yard. Cherry blossoms. Let’s us have our 60lb dog. Have had the same rent since 2018. Just invested in converting our heat from oil to gas and sent us a lengthy, borderline...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I worry the T is doing a little “hands over the ears shouting la la la” about this. When asked about the signage including a clock with 15 minutes and how inflexible that seems, the T’s only comment has been “we are committed to 15 minute frequencies on these routes”.

Yes you are mostly correct, I mistakenly referenced to it as a cut because Columbia south of Taber St has had a hard curb for years, so at Taber/Columbia was the only point where the sidewalk sloped.

Eng unfortunately also has to oversee implementation of Bus Network Redesign. So while staffing has started to pick up (not to pre-pandemic levels) that is going towards the implementation of phase I BNRD. Wether this is the best use of resources is a very valid criticism that I’d agree with...

    MBTA Construction Projects

This is incredibly specific and small I wasn't even going to say anything until I saw someone on a wheelchair using the path yesterday. The Quincy MBTA Bus Garage project is, as most know, on the site of a former Lowes. The Lowes parking lot was a cut through for my neighborhood to access the...

    Biking in Boston

You got me. I’m not as familiar with north of Boston because I’m never delivering up there. I was thinking of Quincy, Dedham, and Waltham. It’s also, unlike the Everett Costco, clearly accessible by bike. That being said, I don’t think that changes that *most orders* can be handled by a cargo...

    Biking in Boston

As someone who does instacart delivery, and in fact does a lot of BJs delivery in particular, I think we’re falling into the trap of arguing about irrelevant theoreticals. The closest BJs to Boston are all right along 128. The closest Costco to Boston is in Everett. People aren’t getting BJs or...

This past Friday an E-cargo bike rental company launched in Boston-Cambridge-Somerville: https://www.ridecargob.com/campaigns/view-campaign/XiRp0Zz23KWCRM8XgtK0GDBJdkkU9AVfzWWsg5t6kzRsZS-sTei8hGpz-aVg9uAChUIrH0yep0502VGUtVLukQeno0uFcMDk While rooting for them, I’m skeptical unless they can...

Green Line extension Newton to Needham

I wrote out something sappy before my browser crashed (which seems to be related to this site and happening regardless of device) but tl;dr it’s incredibly unlikely I’d be a professional transportation planner without this board and the Boston transportation bloggers like Van and Ari Ofsevit.

    Biking in Boston

Where are you seeing this whatabouism and blaming driving? The past page/24 hours has been a pretty consistent/rational acknowledgement of aggressive, anti-social cycling that's detrimental to "the cause" along with statements that more enforcement is part of the solution. Seems like you're...

    Biking in Boston

Implementing "Idaho" laws, where a red light = a stop sign to cyclists and a stop sign = a yield to cyclists combined with more rigid enforcement seems like a common sense compromise here. I run roll through stop signs all the time on my bike...because at a low speed I can clearly see there is...

    Biking in Boston

I don't have anything to back this up, but I think your assumption is by and large correct. I think the majority of BB riders are newer, slower, and more cautious. That being said I think that on a per mile ridden basis that, if not a majority, a disproportionate share of bluebike riders come...

    Biking in Boston

This is 100% backed by the data, that cyclists broadly are more likely to be young males, a demographic highly associated with willingness to take risk and aggressive behavior.

    Biking in Boston

I think there is a significant novelty factor here. Bicyclists presenting a significant hazard to pedestrians/other cyclists is a notable event while people driving hazardously is unfortunately commonplace. I drive aprox. 15 minutes a day driving my daughter to day care and then back home. I see...
