Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

T.F. Green and Wickford were both designed to later have northbound platforms added on new 4th track turnouts on the other side. T.F. Green is also future-proofed for electrification by installing a wide-swingout freight gauntlet track on the current platform track that allows the 19'2"...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I guess Seashore Trolley Museum isn't taking any Orange 01200 Hawkers since they've got a pair of the almost-identical Blue 0600 Hawkers. NETransit roster was also updated in the last 24 hours for the first time in about 6 weeks. Only 2 more cars have been accepted into service, so the roster...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

These cross-Sound proposals mostly assume that the abandoned midsection of the Central Branch would be rebuilt as a high-speed bypass of the Main Line east of Floral Park. But that too would have local traffic to bob-and-weave around on two tracks, because the Central Branch is an LIRR-world...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

It's a sexist term that's demeaning as hell to women. This poster thinks he's winning an argument by invoking that; in reality he's really just showing his own ass for all. While proving the original charge that there's no facts whatsoever informing these constantly-repeated hottakes.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Not with LIRR traffic to contend with, it won't. The Main Line exceeds the traffic-clogged New Haven Line in service density, and almost all of it is local/non-express traffic that's making frequent stops. You can't bob and weave a 200 MPH train around that kind of traffic.

Ideas for a new arena for the Boston women's hockey team?

Based on what I'm told repeatedly on this board, architecturally preserving an ugly-ass supertall smokestack or GTFO.

Potential Exelon Mystic Station Redevelopment | Everett

The three bus routes that use Alford carry more than 8000 passengers each day. Somebody doesn't know how this works. . .

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

This is just like a couple months ago when you flung out a totally vibes-based assertion that the Cape is de-populating into a ghost town and was unworthy of the investment, then did a cut-and-run when the evidence piled up against that. You have a chronic habit on this board of flinging out...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Wickford gets 8 round-trips per weekday with 2-3 hour headways, and no weekend service. Of course it isn't generating ridership. RIDOT was supposed to have advanced more of its intrastate CR buildout by now allowing service increases to Wickford. It hasn't acted on any of that. It's a proven...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

I don't think Newport alone is going to move the needle. It's very far from Boston, and even in the NYNH&H days there was only a bit schedule continuing past Fall River. From the 1920's on, service was catered to the weekenders. If RIDOT wanted to reactivate the Tiverton tracks and rebuild...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

WHAAA??? In what universe does upgrading the tracks for "regular use" (hint: it is used regularly by the Dinner Train) require a new bridge over the Canal? I can't even fathom what she's getting at here. The proposed replacement spur is 2 miles alongside the Route 28 shoulder dead-ending at...

    Fantasy T maps

Co-mingled on wider Brighton + Cambridge, then Sparhawk/Arlington/Fanueil alternate bike corridor all the way. I don't see any problem with that. Sorry, Delvin...it's not going to thrill you, but the capacity of a loaded Type 10 trolley running every 6-12 minutes absolutely dwarfs the hourly...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

If Regional Rail (i.e. :30 service on the Stoughton main) is now the future-proofing threshold, they pretty much can't build it at 2013 FEIR specifications because it simply won't work with the single-tracking. As I scoped out in this post 10 years ago, all Fall River peak-period trains (in RER...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Not much. The one-car temp mini-high infilled at Bourne was fairly successful at attracting ridership, so there's nothing in the service plan that says the pre-existing ADA mini-highs at Sandwich and West Barnstable can't be added. It just hasn't been a priority for the Cape Chamber of...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Today's Red derailment was a rented hi-rail bucket loader, not a conventional piece of T equipment. Hi-rail vehicles are not built for running at full speed in rail mode, and need to be handled gingerly. This one happened on the overnight maint shift and only ended up fucking up the morning...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

North Cambridge isn't a pilot. They've eschewed gaining any information on how BEB's charging range will fare in a New England climate and are jumping without a safety net at deploying them to North Cambridge, Quincy, and Arborway. If it fails and the BEB's can't cover the duty cycles for...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

You can replace them, but that drives up the cost of the midlife overhaul beyond what they typically spend for a diesel midlife overhaul so they've opted not to do that on the 3 generations of CNG's that they've purchased. The more recent contracts they've inked with New Flyer give the options...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

They're due to be replaced by 2028-29 with the expiration of the tanks. The replacement Arborway garage is going to be a BEB facility, with 200 BEB's replacing 118 CNG's and two 60-footer routes (28 and 39) being relocated to Arborway from Southampton with new 60-footer BEB's. So there's a...
