    The New Retail Thread

On a related note, the Center Plaza CVS is closing on March 15. (Edit: Related to the Kinsale space being reused as a new Irish pub)

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Iarnród Éireann, Ireland's national railroad company, has platform entry gates at least at its major and secondary stations. On a trip there a few years back, I had to tap in at Dublin Heuston and tap out to exit at Cork and vice-versa, as well as in and out at some midsized outlying stations...

    Union Square D2.1 | 10 Prospect Street | Somerville

I was thinking about the same just as I scrolled by this, but replacing bloody Mary with a bathtub Mary (bacon-infusion optional). Though that's usually more of a sky blue.

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

That and maybe allow something similar in dimensions to what was on the south side of Newbury St before the Pike was built. The economics of decking may not allow that though.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Those office floors weren't original. They were added in the early 90s. I remember seeing them under construction, I always thought they added a more "completed" look to it. That said, if there was one building I wanted to see gone anywhere, it would probably be this.

    Portland Passenger Rail

When did this happen? The only reference to it being damaged I could find was this incident in 2018, and it sounds like the damage was minimal. It was retired by Amtrak the following year (along with some other vintage equipment in Amtrak's roster) and is now being used on a scenic railroad in...

Fenway Corners (Red Sox) | 1 Jersey Street | Fenway

I think Martin Moone may object. I mean, where else will he keep his pet donkey Donkey Kong? (If you haven't seen that show, I highly recommend it. It is as rewatchable as Arrested Development (OS) or 30 Rock. I've watched the whole series at least six times (three seasons of six 23 minute (+/-)...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I counted five new sets running yesterday as well. Does anyone know how many sets in total have been accepted?

    New England Electrical Grid

Agreed. If you don't know how ingenious heat pumps are, this video explains it (actually, if you want to know ingenious pretty much any mundane everyday thing is, you should check out the rest of his videos).

Connected/Automated vehicles and infrastructure in Boston

I would add a two branch Anderson/Woburn to Burlington and Billerica, and to Lexington via Woburn Four Corners via the power line rights of way to that list. A narrow path to accommodate such a shuttle could be built at a fairly low cost, though it would have to contend with passing through the...

    Blue Line extension to Lynn

I'd say maybe precincts or some other macro division might be more accurate, but even that's not without its flaws. For example Burlington has seven precincts of about the same population, and on the map, six appear to be roughly the same size, but Precinct 7 takes up the whole southern end of...

    Blue Line extension to Lynn

Municipal bounds themselves are arbitrary and some of those numbers are flawed because they don't account for land use or water area. For example, three quarters of the territory within Marblehead's bounds is water. Marblehead has a population of about 20,000 and is just under 20 square miles...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

It can't be much worse than the current canopy, which during heavy rain or snowmelt drains the water directly onto the top of the train which is then directed off the top of the train and onto passengers alighting and boarding the train. The Southwest Corridor canopies seem to have been designed...

SAV-MOR Site Lab Building | 15 McGrath Highway | Somerville

Though a worthy replacement, I will miss Sav-Mor's cheeky sign messages, with gems like "Best Liquor Scout Mag 2016-2017. Thank you Somerville for your low standards", and "Suck it Barneys Booze Arama. Winner Best Liquor Store Scout Magazine 2016" (see the past street views for more).

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Even if they are historically protected, that doesn't mean they can't be expanded, renovated, or even completely replaced. A state or NRHP listing might make the process a little more complicated; any restoration, expansion, or replacement would likely have to reflect or acknowledge the...

    Provincetown Developments

It's too bad that the VFW development couldn't connect a footpath to Georges Path behind it to accommodate and induce better pedestrian flow for the intended residents to get to the center of town. Shank Painter Rd isn't a particularly great walk.

N is also the third (after W and K) and very rarely used starting letter on US broadcast call signs.

Harriet Tubman House | 566 Columbus Avenue | South End

I wonder if that's a sign that they'll be using heavy timber beams over the typical kindling stick firetraps seen elsewhere.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Agreed. Every time I look at it, I channel my inner Patsy Stone [to her annoying mother on her deathbed] and shout in my head: "Just die already!"

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Photoshop? It's really not that difficult to change colors. Those are Orange Line cars. The old Blue Line cars had pantographs and only two doors on each side. And four digit numbers in the 0600 format, not the six digit 01200 format.
