Water Transportation in and around Boston

There isn't a dock near South Station that would work; service would have to be from either Rowes Wharf or the Seaport World Trade Center.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I hope there's an official "Goodbye to the 1200 series" event; the last cars to run on the Washington Street Elevated deserve a better send-off than "No train service".

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

It could be about busses platforming at the green line stops?

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

A dual-mode locomotive would be a good idea. A tri-mode? With batteries? Are wires that hard?

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Artificial Intelligence will help with the bus driver shortage by driving heavy rail subway trains, freeing up dozens of human operators to drive busses.

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

At least one BOS-SPG train should be timed to enable cross-platform transfers to the "Vermonter" in Springfield, definitely.

A Viewliner slumbercoach would be interesting; fully lie-flat coach seats would probably be the modern alternative.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Hmmm, if a combined BOS/NYP overnight train that splits in Albany is a good idea, why not add a Boston section to the daytime Adirondack as well? Even if it's less useful for BOS-MTL travelers than the overnight train, it certainly could be useful for Bostonians traveling to Albany or upstate...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Plus, Boston North Station hasn't handled an overnight train since the Gull stopped running in 1960, so there are no facilities for crew rest, catering, or laundry. The train would have to be shuttled over the Grand Junction to Southampton Yard for that stuff, *if* Amtrak would allow it.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The *GLX* project speed is 50 mph. The Lechemere viaduct rehabilitation was technically not part of the GLX project.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

According to multiple operators, the wire was installed incorrectly the first time around.

Western Avenue Corridor Study & Rezoning

Also, the transitway is designed to accommodate a green line branch I think.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

How about an MWRA alum? Those guys have lots of experience running a transportation system in Massachusetts (for water admittedly), and have been quietly maintaining old and constructing new infrastructure for the better part of three decades with very few failures.

Can they outfit a trailer as an OCC simulator? If trainees can spend even one less week on actual boards that will let them ten classes in the time it currently takes to train nine.

Are they provisioning for a Red Line tunnel as well?

They aren't publishing this data, but they are releasing trip time information. Transitmatters is simply comparing those trip time numbers with a baseline. Sidenote: the fact that the T does publicly release this kind of data and has for years is a genuinely good thing which the agency should...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Talked to a trolley operator about that one; he said it was an issue with the overhead wires, not the structure itself. Apparently (need to confirm this), someone forgot that they were supposed to be zig-zagged above the tracks when they were first installed (so the pantograph wears evenly). The...
