Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Yes, it will just bypass Haymarket. These closures render the GLX effectively useless if you want to reliably get anywhere within a certain window of time. The headways drop to ~20 minutes.

North Station, Charles River Draw, & Tower A

In case anyone needs a reference point, the Leonard Zakim Bridge, a moderately complex feat of engineering and construction, cost $175m in 2023 dollars (CPI adjusted, not construction-specific, so likely, higher, but not 10x higher).. I think it's partly that the state is running out of...

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

The social media posts today are referencing how additional funding has been allocated in the FY24-28 CIP to get this to 30% design at the tune of ~$30 million. Infrastructure costs don't seem real to me anymore. $30 million to get this to a schematic-level of design....

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

They can make progress during the day on portions not over the green line, but it seems it's rather surgical to deal with the weight/balance of the whole structure, so they can only do so much for the portion not over the green line before they have to go back to the portion over the green line...

Bumping this, but I like this project a lot.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I use GLX 4-10x per week, because I live on it, so honestly I can't speak for others why it's not as "popular" (for the record, getting on at Ball Square, the second stop on the line, at 8AM means not finding a seat anymore), but I can take an uninformed guess. These stations/neighborhoods are...

Porter Square Infill and Small Developments

If this is the same SGL, it's even more confusing why they went for lab in the first place, considering their experience in housing and lack thereof in labs. Maybe multifamily wasn't penning out on the excel sheet.

Porter Square Infill and Small Developments

Project is dead after Somerville determined lab space should only account for 50% of square footage. Developer subsequently pulled their plans.

    Kendall/MIT Infill and Small Developments

A perfect, crystal-clear explanation behind the most pertinent elements of the project from the Architects themselves: If anyone has been keeping up with the uprising of trads on Twitter/X, it's writing and design like this that enhance their arguments against...

    MBTA Construction Projects

The T explained with the Lechmere Viaduct that replacing rail ties or rails (in this case) 2 years earlier than their expected useful life end-date isn't best fiscal practice. I'm sure someone could do a cost-benefit and risk analysis of doing it all at once vs over 4 total (?) weeks of 2 summer...

Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

How are they going to manage vertical construction past the deck? Any thoughts where a tower crane would go? Also, noticing now that there was a beam in place across the Pike in AndreyD's post back in April, which appears to be gone now...

Somerville High School Renovation & Expansion | 81 Highland Ave | Somerville

Fire lane makes most sense. That part of the building is seems within range of Medford and Highland, but likely out the comfort zone of Somerville Fire considering the height and purpose of the building, would be my guess. I've said it before - this place will be so well drained. Nothing but a...

Might be mistaken here but I believe the city is working on getting some affordable housing on this site. Nothing's easy though..

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

I've come to learn these major firms work on plenty of buildings that will never show on their portfolio, or they'll never tell you they worked on it (unless you're a similar client), and that's for a reason... I've even heard some firms run offshoot firms under different names to separate them...

    Channelside (née P&G) | 244-248 A Street | Fort Point

Kinda wish this building had a little more going on with it, almost like Heatherwick's Lantern House, just to break up the monotony a little bit. While these are nice, the area is set up for some interesting architecture, not something that's well-done but follows the rules a little too closely.
