MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Funny, that is how respectful international business meetings are usually conducted.

Eli Lilly IGM | 15 Necco Street | Fort Point

Just to be clear, plug in "Seaport" in Apartments.com and you definitely get properties on West Broadway and even further south!

    Red Line Extension to Mattapan

Exactly. European and Asian cities routinely build metro lines (and high speed rail) in places American cities would view as "impossible". Impossible just means they really want to do it, so find a way; and we really don't want to do it very badly, so make excuses.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Rail Grade Maximums are not exactly just "silly FRA rules". They also reflect real world physics. Steel on steel is not known for its great traction and stopping resistance on grades.

    Biking in Boston

We also do a poor job of highlighting how many more travelers fit in the same space on bikes versus SOV (both moving and parking).

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Could very well have been custom precasts that have to be remade (damaged in transit or installation?). They go to the back of the queue for a new order that small. Could take months/years? It is probably like the damaged windows at One Dalton -- which took forever to get replaced, because...

Middlesex County Courthouse Redevelopment | 40 Thorndike St | East Cambridge

I would assume, given the age of the building, there was nothing salvageable in the original mechanical systems, so might as well go high tech, energy efficient in a total rebuild.

    Biking in Boston

Question, do any of the cycling advocacy organization try to orchestrate "cyclizing" particular downtown streets. By Cyclizing, I don't mean legal, City of Boston action. I mean guiding cyclists to make use of these street, for the purpose of creating a critical mass of cyclists. Flood a...

The tanks are also hazardous waste containers.

    The Official MBTA System Map

There are standards and general guidelines for the minimum size of symbols and fonts on wayfinding maps, driven by expected viewing distance: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/product/mapping/guidelines-for-minimum-size-for-text-and-symbols-on-maps/ To my eye, the font and symbol size...

    The Official MBTA System Map

Isn't the SL4/5 combination the highest bus ridership route in the MBTA system; and some of it (theoretically) is in bus lanes (unenforced).

    River Street Redesign | Cambridge

There are still 100,000 college students in greater Boston.

Interesting how from the BCEC vantage you don't even notice the setback mid-way up.

If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

Many downtown are just buried in concrete conduit -- quite small. Not tunnels.

Everett Docklands Innovation District | 52 Beacham Street | Everett

I just worry that this district is a repeat of Edgewater in New Jersey -- where the poorly capped hazardous waste contaminated soil seeps toxic plumes in the buildings. I believe we are "trusting the developer" to properly cap the site? They are not doing wholesale removal and remediation.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

This may have been commented upon before, but this weekend I saw what must be the poster child for quality on-board wayfinding information displays on rapid transit vehicles. The over door displays on the 8th Avenue Express (A) trains in NYC. High resolution displays that adaptatively display...

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

With no enforcement, no fare inspection, aren't you basically a chump if you pay? And doesn't that make all-door onboard "fare collection" a colossal boondoggle?

Potential Exelon Mystic Station Redevelopment | Everett

I think this year was noticeable worse. The legislature in their down-to-the-wire disfunction usually drops something. This year they dropped the ball on almost everything.
