Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Found an interesting presentation on the Union Square/Somerville Ave projects and their effects on flood models made by Somerville's director of infrastructure. Some tidbits: - Looks like the models presented still expect Washington and Medford St crossings to still flood. - They specifically...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

It’s possible that we’re not seeing the whole picture because this underpass is also in scope of the McGrath grounding... if that ever happens.

    Let's Talk About Gentrification...

It’s offices and 450 apartments, actually.

    BCEC expansion | Seaport

PAX uses the entire building: exhibition space, breakout rooms, informal spaces (next to the escalators on both sides), food courts and the Lawn on D (weather permitting). The last attendance numbers they've got are 69k back in 2011, and they've since expanded it to a 4 day event. IIRC, they...

Prospect St (Cambridge - Somerville) "Too Small"

On the Somerville section, at least, I doubt we'd see any traction for a good long while. The area has been building up in preparation for the green line, and all of those buildings are basically right on the street.

    Somerville Infill and Small Developments

In the Curbed article about the Scape/Davis Square sitch, they mention that they didn't outright buy the land and instead acquired a 99 year ground lease? Is this a common practice in the Boston area? I'm curious why they'd do that as opposed to just buying the land outright?

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

In Japan, you can use Apple Pay instead of a Suica card. They get around the need for auth by allowing you to set an “Express Transit Card”. You can also use your default transit card when your phone runs out of battery (but when you can still get the phone to show you the empty battery screen)...

Yep, either Ames or Galileo depending on conditions of the day.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

They also added a banner at the central entrance at Canal St stating that it was for TD Garden access only. I guess they're planning on opening that entrance up soon?

    US2 Redevelopment | Union Square | Somerville

This would make buses coming to and from Sullivan even more tortured. Not to mention you’d basically be hemming in the folks living between Washington and Somerville even more tightly hemmed in by major roads... as well as introducing another signal with dedicated turn phases to Somerville Ave.

    US2 Redevelopment | Union Square | Somerville

USQ has since posted neighborhood meeting notes with updated renders. They've broken up the facade a bit on the tower. What I'm most excited about, though, is that they're paying attention to the station plaza as civic space for the neighborhood and not just folks getting to the station. Also...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Have there been any updates IRT station designs? I know they're going to be heavily stripped back from what was originally proposed, but did we ever find out HOW stripped back they'd be? I'm kinda running under the assumption that we're getting bare-bones platforms with some signs and staircases.

Updates from the MBTA financial review board: -2 bids came in at or under the affordability limit -Pilot vehicles for the Type 9s are expected by February 2018 with the rest arriving by December.

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Huh, looks like their flying the inverse of JetBlue's BOS-AUS flights with eastbound in the morning and westbound in the evening.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Might be the lack of wear and tear... also the lack of ads or any signage. Aside from the lack of open passage between cars... and the super bright colors, these wouldn't be out of place in Hong Kong, Taipei or Singapore.

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

WN also flies BOS-AUS as does B6. I would love for BOS-SAT to happen, but I'm not going to hold my breath. With Houston and Dallas a 1 hr hop away and Austin sucking any remaining air out of the room, SA is left with scraps... that at least connect it to basically every major hub... but still.

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

Re: NorthPoint Cambridge (The one that was train yards, the big plan.) I think a big justification for it was it'd just be spruced up emergency egress.

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

I doubt most folks really care about what the buildings look like. Also, given the location (on 93 and the orange line in Somerville) I doubt we really have to worry about it becoming a ghost town more than any other shopping complex on a major highway.
