Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Totally agree...I remember your response on Railroad.Net many years ago. I even saved it for future reference. To me, you could have a series of smaller trestles and maybe culverts that might assuage the AOC. Confidence was/is low.

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Meanwhile, the bike path group is still looking to kill off the rest of the Falmouth Branch was at it again. Retired Senator Susan Moran had snuck in a amendment to convert the line to a bike path. Having gotten some pushback, she withdrew this and submitted another one authorizing studying a...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Just an FYI, but the ferry parking lot in New Bedford last night was about 98% full (and that included spilling into the commuter rail station area). Not sure what is going to happen when T service starts up. Guess they are thinking everyone is going to walk to the station? Don't think so. Ferry...

North Station, Charles River Draw, & Tower A

That's disappointing. If I was the bridgetender at Tower A, I'd be heavily investing in insurance options to protect myself.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I've always been against attaching a pedestrian walkway to the railroad drawbridge. And I speak as a retired dispatcher who worked the Terminal Desk. This would be a potential nightmare for the railroad and bridge tender in Spring/Summer/Fall attempting to make openings for boats between train...

    Chelsea Branch Railroad Remains/Route

According to Robert Dale Kerr's excellent book "The Rail Lines of Southern New England" The Chelsea Beach Branch opened in 1881. Was operated only in summer months for beach crowds. It formed a loop paralleling the main line with the northern junction at the Revere/Saugus line (Saugus River Jct)...

Freight and General New England RR News

Sort of bittersweet for me. A lot of us were wondering why they stuck around for as long as they did. Maybe it was for two of their "legacy" employees to retire ( done in 2022/23) or to see if Mass Coastal made a go it. If it weren't for BCLR, there would've been a lot less trackage in S.E...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

I've often wondered why the extension/reactivation to Gold Medal has yet to happen? What becomes of the IRAP money allocated for it? MDOT ran a brush cutter down there when it was announced, but nothing since. Wonder how powerful the marina/condo people are (since they got their backs up when...

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

That's mainly due to the sharp curve into the station and the fact your entering the station and not going any further east. You are not going to get anything better than an "Approach" once you get close to the wye connection. I don't know the actual timetable speeds for this area or the...
