Photo of the Day, Boston Style - Part Deux

restoring this building's proper dignity would go along way to make it more likeable. get rid of the parking lot, add some cafe's, some seating.... there's no reason this couldn't be a nice successful plaza. It would also give people a reason to walk or sit on those awesome staircases and...

    What I hate about Boston

these last couple of pictures are extremely depressing. i've read about 'general sentiment' of the era and all that stuff, and yet am still unable to understand how the replacements ever seemed like a good idea, even back then. Sure, some of these buildings were destroyed by accidents, but...

Columbus Center: RIP | Back Bay

Re: Columbus Center "Turnpike Master Plan" - is this the same as the "civic vision" document? the one that calls for the 'high spine', pretty much along the turnpike? for what its worth, i'm a south end resident (edit: and owner), live about two blocks from where columbus center would rise...

    Northeastern eyes dorms

i commend the way the building comes up and meets the streets (so far anyways) and for that reason alone its worthwhile, and better than before, but its ugly. The pics don't do it justice imo, its much uglier in person. Those red panels almost look like plywood (and yes, flimsy lookin') and...

    TD Banknorth Garden Lights

Just wondering if the lighting scheme on the Garden has any significance, or is it just random?

    Modernist Abominations

hmm... this thing is pretty brutal every way i look at it too... http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=r1rb5t92b177&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=951438&encType=1

    Is parking too cheap?

hmm... that much too wide sidewalk will pose some challenges. Though I agree it is much to wide stylistically, its often well used thanks to the bus stop. A much smaller sidewalk here could crowd things beyond the point of comfort.

    Waterside Place 1A | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

Re: Waterside Place Central Square in Cambridge would count too. Yes, of course parking lots behind buildings are better than in front, but this isn't an optimal arrangement either, after all, just because they aren't lining the 'main' drag doesn't mean they don't line another. Just take a...

    W Hotel | 100 Stuart St | Theater District

Re: W Hotel .... looks like another short and stubby. Its okay, at least it'll hide the Radisson more, and of course replace a parking lot.

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

the good news is that it hides the open air garage the building sits on top of, so hopefully in the future, it should be an easy fix. hopefully....

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

that building is pretty nice. once again the construction color makes it much more interesting than the finished product.... but... .... they completely blew the ground floor. This close to Union Square, you really had an opportunity to extend the 'city' out a little bit. Even if they...

One Greenway (Parcel 24) | 0 Kneeland Street | Chinatown

Re: Parcel 24 its a way to appease nimbys. Don't you understand??? Buildings=bad, park=good. Good urban fabric be damned. Everything should look and feel like the suburbs. I rather liked the older design.
