Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

JF White is in charge of building the deck over the pike. So the micropile driller, cast-in-place concrete sub, steel erector, etc. are all subcontractors to JF White. At bid time, JF White had a low steel number from a company that was not DOT prequaled (not sure if this means their fab...

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

Ouch, I hadn't noticed that before. I wonder if it has to do with differing jurisdictions. Isn't the Army Corp typically responsible for maintaining navigable waterways? So they may have said to the City, we don't care what you want the bridge bumpers to look like, we're going with the cheap...

    Boston College Master Plan

Sorry to ping an old post, but you aren't wrong. The last two years the underpinned a bunch of the mods with helical piles and this year they replaced/upgraded all the underground electric through the mods. They're not tearing down the mods, they're investing in them 🤦‍♂️!!!

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Latest I heard (and this is pretty consistent with that presentation) is that the DOT wants to copy what they did with the Whittier Bridge project. Replace one bridge with two network-tied-arch bridges. Or in this case replace two bridges with four network-tied-arch bridges. Latest price tag...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

The apocryphal story I heard was that both towers were supposed to be the same Johnson design (basically mini-twin towers). But the Back Bay was so mortified when they started seeing Johnson's finished product that they demanded the second tower be changed. And PoMo begot more PoMo. That story...

Why would they wait until 2025 to take down the temp bridge if they're moving 3 lanes to the new bridge this Winter? We're not getting a fourth lane out of the temp bridge, right?

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Is this where you saw it? There's a fifth jet fuel tank going in there. It's being built on massive concrete piles.

I was thinking the exact same thing as I looked at these pics

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Does anyone have any insight into whether or not building on City Hall Plaza would be difficult because of the subway tunnels underneath? I've never heard that cited as an excuse for why it's not redeveloped. Just curious.

10 World Trade | BGI Office Tower (Massport Parcel A2) | Seaport

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or are the arches not "true" arches? Looks like the tops are flattened a bit, right? A very odd architectural choice if that's the case.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

I agree with both of your comments but I'm not sure there's a better alternative. This was one of the unbuildable parcels above the tunnel, right? So it was always going to be open space. They kept it low maintenance and reasonably pleasant.

    845 Boylston 40B I Brookline

It's a 40B so the objections are to try to prevent poor people from moving in. Maybe a sprinkle of racism in there as well - just a pinch.

There have been welders making repairs in the tub girders for a couple weeks now. I've noticed them crawling around in there. Apparently re-welding the internal diaphragms that had weld issues.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

From the National Steel Bridge Alliance guide to tub girder bridge design: One of the reasons most often cited for using steel tub girders is aesthetics. Bracing, stiffeners, utilities, and other components are typically hidden within the box, resulting in a smooth, uncluttered form. Because a...

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

Charlie is right. They'll be a fight with the insurance company but the bridge will get built in the meantime. Standing pat just increases everyone's exposure.

If they think they have a claim against an Errors & Omissions policy then I would guess it's the design engineer. I wouldn't expect the other parties to have an E&O policy.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

Latest I heard is that this is looking like a $40-$50M screw up and they'll be going after E&O insurance to cover it.
