    "Dirty Old Boston"

Better than the highway, yes, but not better than what existed before the highway.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

^^^ Such a shame that we lost Fort Hill Square, the elliptical space pictured above, where International Place is today. This is a much better public space than an empty atrium: It survived all the way into the 50s until the automobile finally killed it:

539-551 Centre Street | Jamaica Plain

This sucks. It's arguably not even an improvement over what's currently there, in which case -- in a city in the middle of a housing crisis, on a planet in the middle of a sustainability crisis -- we're better off not needlessly tearing down the existing building.

1400 Boylston Street | Star Market & Gulf | Fenway

Yeah, it’s disappointing that they didn’t go for something more iconic here (not necessarily something taller, just something that announces itself). This intersection has already surpassed Kenmore as the most important square* in the Fenway. It crushes Kenmore in terms of pedestrian activity...

1400 Boylston Street | Star Market & Gulf | Fenway

Agree, but is it really a concession to residents? The residents in this part of town are overwhelmingly young, transient, and renting - exactly the demographic that typically doesn’t demand parking. Seems more likely that they think the lab space will demand higher rents if it comes with parking.

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Bow Market is amazing. It's one of the most unique spaces in Boston right now and we're lucky to have it. I'm sort of mystified that, not only has it not attracted more national attention compared to similar projects like The Piazza in Northern Liberties, but I feel like the majority of...

    Fenway Infill and Small Developments

In terms of urbanism, East Fenway is a really wonderful corner of Boston. . . and I think it's a real problem that's it's basically all owned by Northeastern or otherwise dominated by NU students. Students are a vital part of the urban life of any city, but when you cede an entire neighborhood...

    Lowell Infill and Small Developments

I don’t need to look it up, I ride it every day. And riding it every day to and from a condo in Lowell would still be significantly cheaper overall than riding it every day to and from a condo in Roslindale. This really isn’t complicated.

    Lowell Infill and Small Developments

Of course it would be cheaper. You still need to pay for transit and have a car in most of the area inside 128 anyway. Never thought I’d see someone on this board of all places argue that “there’s no point” in expanding transit access…

Electrify the commuter rail to Lowell and run it every 15 minutes and the city will absolutely explode. The bones are too damn pretty not to.

Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

I think the problem is that it's still essentially on the outskirts of the Seaport, owing to the fact that it's still mostly surrounded by construction sites. The completions of Seaport Square and the arch building should help.

A dense commercial strip abutting the highway and train tracks?

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Jesus, everyone take a deep breath. It's not closed. It's just blocked off at night to keep drunken 20-somethings from barreling down it.

There aren't. Boston is arguably the safest big city in the country.

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

Yeah, it does. And frankly, it was perfectly fine before. Copley will always be perfectly fine, because, unlike City Hall, it's modestly sized and surrounded by actively used buildings. If they want to make a drastic change, they should close Dartmouth in front of the library and incorporate it...

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

While I still think the Seaport failed to meet its potential, the Harbor Walk is legitimately world class, and is going visited/photographed/celebrated for a long time. It's the only thing recently built in this city that belongs in this conversation...

Fenway Corners (Red Sox) | 1 Jersey Street | Fenway

So. . . the Citgo sign isn't going to be visible from inside the ballpark after this, is it? As much as people here would scoff about that, that's going to be a big deal.
