The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

I agree, it would have been nice when I worked at One Portland Square to be able to walk somewhere to grab Tylenol - lol. Maybe there's room for two vendors? Grocery and Granny's Burritos anyone? :)

Herald Square | 385 Congress St | Portland

Maybe the mural will be where they expect the vehicles to turn into the site?

They have these in NYC with a view of the Empire State Building. Removed in the warm months. Super fun.

    Portland Passenger Rail

So it sounds like there's a bit of a desire for both. West Falmouth hub for a larger parking and drop-off facility. But then why wouldn't they just keep it at Thompson's Point? A Union Station location on the Peninsula for those who don't have vehicles, want a walkable experience. This...

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

@Redfern The challenge with all of these ideas is the concern of turning it into another Paul's, Joe's Variety, or even the drab CVS. With the proximity to Preble Street, you'd want to be wary of what you choose to put in there. A Rosemont-esque location could be ideal for a lot of in-town...

    Portland Passenger Rail

I simply don't want a Train Station that looks like shit. Portland deserves better than that. While something utilitarian does the job, boy wouldn't it be lovely to arrive in Maine to something NICE? I don't think that's elitist. Sure, the Portland Airport is fairly utilitarian and does the...

    Portland Passenger Rail

I get this, but it'd be nice for Portland to build something attractive, unique, and makes a statement. Perhaps make amends for the stupidity of tearing down the beautiful train stations we have. I don't need some grand beautiful train station, but it sure would be really nice for the region...

Still not a fan of the beige, but nice design.

    Portland Passenger Rail

Dumb question or thought - but what if they acquired the Ferguson site AND used the existing Metro Bus Maintenance Facility? Maybe build a sky bridge to connect over St. John's down to the rail, to parking, or vice versa? Move the metro somewhere else.

Rock Row (née The Ridge, née Dirigo Plaza) | Westbrook, ME

I always thought Stroudwater Tire would make for a great brew-pub or something. lol

    Portland Passenger Rail

Which lines connect to Quebec and Montreal? There's an existing defunct line through Westbrook, Falmouth, and Auburn right? Remember VIP Charter Busses sought to rezone their lot too. I wonder if they'd move to a consolidated spot eventually also, in addition to municipal busses.

    Portland Passenger Rail

There was talk of that Bruno's site being a grocery store (Market Basket?) like 10 years ago and never happened. Not a bad location, but not centralized to downtown, which is what we ultimately need. So then what, a bus line for downtown service? So then what? Tear up Commercial and put a...

    Portland Passenger Rail

If Portland had only been forward-thinking enough to not tear down their two beautiful train stations to begin with. Amongst some other mindless losses (opera houses/theaters for instance). You can't rebuild this shit once it's gone.

Love it. Just what the neighborhood needs. The addition of trees is very welcome.

Mercy Hospital | 144 State Street | Portland

This is a great project and example of well designed in-fill needed in Portland.

Portland Museum of Art Expansion | Portland

Condensing the choice of Lever down to mere politics might be cynical. Honoring a sense and spirit of place, history, and culture is a good thing. It's not about making amends, contrition, or some empty shrug of a tribute. That's not how Portland minds work. Lever is also not a conservative or...

Portland Museum of Art Expansion | Portland

It's nice to see some additional renderings in this article. Gives more perspective to the massing and actual look of the Lever Design. From the High Street Side, it was hard to tell the overall look Seeing a Congress and Free St view helps visualize the overall project. It is just bold enough...

The Ultility Poles and Wires of Portland, ME

This is funny - my dad used to paint and I always thought it was funny that he included telephone poles in his work. I'd leave them out.
