Freight and General New England RR News

As seen above, the answer is "a lot". MassDOT has been making a lot of deals to secure it's own destiny and have ownership over the tracks it runs on. North side has consistently been behind south side for a lot of improvements. It could make a lot of sense for MassDOT to buy the infrastructure...

Freight and General New England RR News

Thanks George. This will be very interesting to see how it plays out. A lot of the RUR concepts depend on Pan Am rails and we have discussed the company at length. Usually about maintenance, dispatching, freight clearance, and their downright difficulty to work with. Hopefully the next owner...

Freight and General New England RR News

Not sure which thread to drop this in. I'll put it here: https://www.nhbr.com/pan-am-railways-goes-up-for-sale/ Many possible implications for MBTA and general rail use in Mass. and region. Numerous other articles on Google.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

With what looks like a reasonable response to the RFI, and with the FMCB endorsement of electric service, it seems that even without a vehicle choice the T needs to get a substation addition under development soon. They wouldn't exactly be an off the shelf item. It seems to be a no regrets...

As expected, the third SCR bid package is now live. This is the New Bedford side of the project and the Middleboro Secondary. https://bc.mbta.com/business_center/bidding_solicitations/design_and_construction/construction_bid/?cbid=1371

That was, in fact one of the alternatives in the Rail Vision study. That study also envisions the full SCR build through Stoughton.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Sorry to bump this but I would rather place this in the proper thread than the MBTA construction thread. There was recently a bidders forum for two bids: The New Bedford Main Line, Stations, and Layover and for the Fall River Secondary, Stations, and Layover. A very interesting powerpoint is...

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

I will preface this by saying that I have only been to Westfield a couple of times so I don't know that much about the railroad layout. Looking at the alternatives in the study though, the only currently viable ones terminate in Springfield. Now, I know that part of the frequency problem with...

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

So this thing quietly went vertical this week. There are now three massive vertical steel assemblies poking over the top of the garage. I saw them go in the other day as they were hoisted up and over the external garage wall and into the garage structure.

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

Regarding the route and ridership of the East West. Why wouldn't they include a station stop in Westfield, a city of over 40,000 people? It looks like almost an hour by bus but it only 10 miles away.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown
