    Rose Kennedy Greenway

The sidewalk on the upriver side of the bridge is the way to go. There is pedestrian traffic, but most of the time you can cross it without a conflict. I try to avoid riding on sidewalks at all costs, but this is one place where its crazy not to.

Ferdinand Building Renovation + Addition | Dudley Sq | Roxbury

Re: Dudley Sq's Ferdinand Building to be Restored/ Renovated davem--I agree that the treatment of the vacant lots will determine the success or failure of Dudley. A couple comments on your map (in addition to the cemetery). The city has an RFP out to develop the two largest lots you...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

What is this statement based on? Other than the fact that every transit rider would prefer more frequency, I'm not sure Needham is a good example of a place that's suffering from lack of frequency. The only rapid transit stations with lower population density than Needham--Waban, Eliot, and...

Hanover St "Tower" | 244 Hanover St | North End

Re: Hanover St Tower Boston only has service alleys in Back Bay, and some streets in Fenway and South End. Most of the alleys in the North End are front doors.

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

The report linked to above doesn't have any indication it was ever adopted or endorsed by the City of Newton. I guess I'm not convinced there's a huge groundswell for this in Needham either. A Green Line extension would result in the same travel time to Copley and Downtown as commuter rail...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011 Still not a fair comparison. Ontario charges the equivalent of a 55 cents/gallon gas tax. The high Ontario gas tax serves to 1) encourage more people to use public transportation by making driving more expensive, and 2) generates revenue that the...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011 How are European subway expansions funded? To the extent they are funded by national governments, my guess is the governments of Germany and Spain are not as dominated by representatives of regions for whom transit service is a foreign concept. How...

Doesn't it depend on what side of the Fairmount Line you're on (closer to E E Sq on Mass Ave would be Dot and towards BMC would be Roxbury)?

    Boston - Halifax overnight ferry

Too bad this is at least a year away--we're going to Halifax with our three young kids next month, and I'm not looking forward to the 12 hour car ride. At least we'll get to spend some time in Moncton...

Can you name the ten largest cities in each New England state?

^ Another reason why this should be labeled "ten largest municipalities". Newport, RI is arguably the 2nd largest urban center in Rhode Island. For it to not make the top 10 in a state this small is a good indication of how meaningless municipal population statistics are

Can you name the ten largest cities in each New England state?

The same is true of Roxbury, Dorchester, Allston, Charlestown, etc. Somerville's in-town industry or commerce has never been sufficient to employ all of its residents. Absent the proximity to Boston it probably had less reason for being than most of its neighboring "cities" (Cambridge...

Can you name the ten largest cities in each New England state?

Does this quiz focus on municipal governments or actual urban places? For example, would it consider Worcester bigger than Springfield simply because its municipal boundaries include wide swaths of suburbia, even though Springfield is clearly the larger city? Would it consider municipal...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011 I know I've made this point before on the board, but why is an extension to Porter dead obvious? 1) Porter already has a rapid transit connection to downtown 2) Anyone potentially connecting to the Green Line at Porter from the Red Line has the...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos I'm not surprised. The majority of Airport Station's passengers are using the East Boston neighborhood entrance (a local market the SL stops don't have access to). And for airport passengers not starting out on the Red Line, its still the...
