Kind of chicken and the egg though - it doesn't get used as a plaza because regardless of how big it actually is, it's lack of well-defined edges makes it feel massive. Piazza del Campo has buildings with active uses right around its entire edge.

Agreed. I can't imagine they would ever knock the whole thing down, but I would love to see the floors above the cut-throughs that exist now go away and make the remaining 3 separate structures each a little taller.

In the "legacy" photo, I think there would be some flexibility to do something instead of the 4 soccer fields, so I imagine a cricket field could fit. I feel like the soccer fields may have been used more to show the space available.

Except he clearly isn't willing to play that role. He's keeping this all at an arm's length - smart politically, sure, but it means that it's an absolute mess in terms of coordination. These games cannot be contained to just Boston and some type of regional coordination needs to happen.
