City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

How'd all that work out for the people of the West End? In the case of City Hall, arriving at some kind of democratic consensus isn't about defining good or bad architecture; It's about deciding if a baron 9 acre site, in the middle of one of the greatest cities in the country is the most...

There are some condos going up over near the Audubon Circle area of Fenway. They're right up against the series of parking lots that run along the Mass Pike and Brookline ave. "16-22 & 9-15 Miner Street Project to consist of two buildings on opposite sides of Miner Street. 16 Miner St will...

    Academic Building @ Suffolk U | 20 Somerset Street | Beacon Hill

I don't understand this either. They act like this dorm is going up on Charles Street. The dorm would be basically removed from the neighborhood.

IMO this and all the other plans proposed by members of this forum treat the massive area that is City Hall plaza very much the same way it is treated now - like some sort of special "zone" that is detached from the rest of the city. Think what you would want the area to be if you lived across...

A request for the the photoshop guys. Can you take the original rendering for 115 and change the glass to a kind of translucent black like in this rendering?

This is a very important point. When I hear "City Hall" it makes me think not just about the building itself but the entire plaza. They were both designed together and exist as one architectural entity. It doesn't really make sense for one to exist without the other.

Does anyone know what this is?

Yea that's what I thought too Ron. I was hoping it was some kind of 500 foot translucent sculpture with some kind of special lighting. :(

City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

It really wouldn't matter what the discussion or what the proposal because no matter what I'm sure it would meet with your disapproval. All you ever say is what shouldn't be done. How bout you tell us what exactly SHOULD be done with City Hall, Winthrop Square and every place else?

Does anyone know what this is?

I meant the whole project. Is this on one of the islands or it part of the actual waterfront? Also I don't think that's a fountain. It appears to be several hundred feet tall. Whatever it is I kinda like it.

I thought the bricks of the plaza and base represented the citizens.

What should be done with City Hall?

Yeah. Maybe it would be fine if there were a curving street wall of buildings on the opposite side of the street but the fact that it serves as one of the walls of the plaza doesn't make sense. Instead of enclosing the plaza and giving it a sense of definition, it does the opposite. Here's a...
