Beth Israel West Campus Inpatient Building | 111 Francis St | Longwood

Also, that might be the greatest parking garage in Boston--I love that skin, the shape, and the way it gets covered with ivy.

    Underground station layouts

Jumping on the bandwagon of admiration. As someone who had to use elevators for a while it was so frustrating that there is no way to know where any station's elevators are from outside. Such a simple piece of information that is totally missing from the MBTA. It is also so interesting to see...

    Parcel Q1 | 2 Drydock Ave. | Seaport

I really like the way these two are making an edge to the marine park closer to Summer Street.

The Sudbury (Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower) | 50 Sudbury St | GCG Phase I | Gov't Center

This is such a good addition to the skyline. Totally of the now but relates to the JFK building so well. The proportions are really good with that small residential floor plate and the height.

The Aubrey | 149-153 Newbury Street | Back Bay

Agreed--I don't think the render is helping but it looks very flat and cheap. Working on the brick would go a large way to offsetting that. I wish the metal store front was more interesting--it feels very off-the-shelf right now--which, again, may be the rendering.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Wow. That is one of the most attractive non-landmarked buildings in that area. Hopefully NEU keeps it as is and fills it with admin.

    Lobby Renovation/Addition | 175 Federal Street | Financial District

That depends on how they do the work. The sections they are showing now (admittedly, very rough) are not promising. But reversibility should be a goal of the project.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Maybe? I still wonder--we will never achieve the organization of places like Japan but predictability is helpful.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Question for people who know way more about this than I do. One of the concerns with the upcoming South Station Tower is the impacts on commuters. It seems to me, that much of the management of the station would be simplified if commuters knew where their train was coming in advance, rather...

Renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing | Back Bay

It is--City landmark both outside and in. I think the plaza is intriguing--the area on Dartmouth is not great. That area has changed so much over the years and it could be better. I can imagine a connection to the plaza in front of Trinity Church. Should be fun to watch.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Road the new train this morning--second time. I'm looking forward to the days when I loose count. Generally love them--the seats are such a huge improvement. I know this has been discussed but what's with the door beeps? I would assume that some disability advocate is driving it, which is...

The Residences at Forest Hills | 3694 Washington Street | Jamaica Plain

My primary reaction is that this looks cheap. It is flat as a pancake and big. The green is clearly there to "break up the mass," which it can't because the mass is too big to preak up with color changes. And I totally agree that the small-residential scale detailing is silly on buildings this...

Whittier Choice Neighborhood | 1158 Tremont Street | Roxbury

I agree, but and also, market rate housing has been getting closer to affordable for a while now. The cost constraints on building in Boston mean that market rate is frequently flat boxes with some random facade materials. If anything, affordable housing is looking better than the low end of...

MIT Museum/Book Store | née Boeing | 314 Main St. | Kendall Square

This is really handsome against the sky. The way the corners dematerialize is great and the subtle complexity of the fins is also interesting. I'd like to get over there and see what the ground level experience is.

Canopy by Hilton (née Haymarket Hotel) | Blackstone St | Parcel 9 | Greenway

I think they are tabling Blackstone Street.

Harvard SEC (Science & Engineering Complex) | Western Ave | Allston

The more screen that gets put up the more I like it. Kind of want even more than is planned.

MGH Ragon Building | 55 Fruit Street | West End

I generally agree with what FK4 said. One of the great things about Boston is its historic buddings and nature--it give the city a lot of individual character. But not everything is worth saving and sometime what is proposed is more important than what's there now. It can be a difficult...

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

Yes, it is. This is seen as a way to keep the major cornice line at a lower level and have more mass above. Using the vertical metal panel is historicist but it is something that the public and designers are comfortable with in Boston because it mimics an older type and downplays the height. To...

Thanks for the pictures--I've been waiting for those fins. It looks like they are going to tie this all together!
