Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Could battery locomotives ever be a solution in a partially wired-up system? Perhaps a conversion of the more modern locomotives would work? I feel like that could be a solution for outside-128 bound trains with EMU’s working inside. Maybe if freight railroads pour enough resources into battery...

    Better MBTA Station Names

Also since the original Boston City Hall is located on School Street, I had to make sure we were even talking about Somerville

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

FYI this was from 2 months ago. It isn’t an outright denial of funding, just a non commitment to it in the first round. I enjoyed looking at the graphic and reading about what a great project it will be, though.

Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

Maybe now would be a good time to start talking about a big barrier…

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I love it! It’d be interesting to do a cost comparison between this and a back bay-south station green line. You might as well have one trolley line enter the pleasant st portal and turn at the Park st loop, like the old days

New Red and Orange Line Cars

The orange line being “done” was never the intention of the shutdown. The intention was to work on emergency repairs and complete “5 years of work in a month”. Was that accomplished? Probably not, but the backlog of deferred maintenance on the OL and the MBTA as a whole is substantial...

    MBTA Construction Projects

You could have some sort of gutter attached to the elevator carriage that opens to let *liquids* drain out at each level

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

What year is this from? Has there been any movement on a station here or at least the highway reconfiguration in recent years?

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

It looks like there would be enough room where this office building is, although the wetlands may prove difficult to build over/around. You would also need to redesign the interchange slightly to have access ramps, so it may be getting into more crazy transit pitch territory. I think...

A new park and ride station on the Fitchburg at Waltham/Route 20 could solve this problem

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

I personally think that the Glass MSG would be a cool, modern looking option. That would probably be the best use of space as the footprint would be much smaller than the 1910 built (which is a pretty ridiculous thing to want to do imo). Never mind the through-running as that just seems way too...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

If we’re doing a straight cost per mile comparison for two wildly different projects, GLX is $530M/mi and CrossRail is $1.73B/mi

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Where did you get this figure?? Last I checked CrossRail cost $24Bn

Potential Soccer Stadium | Portland peninsula

The link I sent on the last page shows the renderings for a renovated Fitzy for soccer. That’s the plan afaik but no word on a timeline. I’m sure the soccer group that’s pitching it is hoping the city/state pitches in

Potential Soccer Stadium | Portland peninsula

USM has a fairly large rink with an Olympic-sized ice surface on their Gorham campus. all of their athletic facilities are located there.

Potential Soccer Stadium | Portland peninsula

The city put the kibosh on this location for the reasons you mentioned about the storm water tanks. I doubt they even put provisions in place for a foundation to support a structure, especially one of that size...

    Portland Bayside

My dream crazy-transit pitch for Portland is a light rail line running down the Union Branch to the waterfront, street-running down Kennebec/Somerset St and then in the median of Franklin St (I’m pretty sure I’ve posted it on this forum before). I’m happy they’re converting the old dump plots to...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Technically the 4-track CA/T requires two tunnels. It would take two 41’ diameter bores with two tracks each. I’m not sure if there’s a boring machine large enough to hold 4 tracks but there might be. Does anyone know if Crossrail or East-Side Access had 4-track single bores and if that would be...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

That’s not a bad idea. I wonder if they’re just banking (praying) on battery technology improving enough to make those obsolete. It definitely would’ve been worth a pilot program though
