    Crazy Transit Pitches

Worst case, a high level single span truss would fit within all site constraints; not obstructing marine and aeronautical traffic while being able to support LRV live loading since, well thats whats there when the Chelsea St bridge is open. 😂

    Crazy Transit Pitches

The viaduct is about to get a full rehab, but I’d imagine it would be much easier to cut and cover under the bypass Rd alignment regardless of what viaduct structure is there when the UR gets built. Friction piles or spread footings both don’t like giant trenches right next to them. Even...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

Are you referring to the merge onto Storrow WB itself or the lane reduction on the ramp? If the former, that merge is proposed to get a full length parallel acceleration lane as opposed to the ‘lol hope you have a V6’ entrance thats there now.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Only speaking for myself here, but my point was more that the bus/ RT component of the T overall is borderline unusable (and very much trending worse), and how that creates additional challenges both in the political sphere to reducing car dependency and to the long term health of the urban core...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

Not 100% sure about that. The addition of the fourth leg to the boylston intersection plus the tightly spaced right/left weave on Comm Ave EB telegraphs LOS F without even seeing the volumes. The new signal on the overpass probably won’t operate horrible, but its inclusion is an explicit choice...

Commuters Ditched Public Transit for Work From Home. Now There’s a Crisis.

Hard agree. There’s also the equity component to look at with congestion pricing. Because of our aversion to densify around transit and/or in the inner core, so many working class and blue collar folks have been priced out to the outer burbs or the gateway cities of Lynn, Brockton, ect… The...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I was running off the reply that stated it was the full length of the branch, glad it’s only 200’. My general sentiment remains the same however since this is more a case of the straw that broke my mental camel’s back. Don’t blame you if you thought I wanted to “burn it all down over one...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Having a hard time putting to words how hopeless this makes me feel. People in this community (myself included) have been beating the drum on the need for more TOD, road diets, ect… while snickering at the outdated notions of the parking minimum crowd. With service this bad on a brand new line...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Dont see why the T couldn’t operate it as two bidirectional tracks and have trains arrive and depart from both platforms like at Oak Grove, Alewife, ect. It’s annoying that trains could leave from either level, but isn’t directing passengers to the right platform what the T ambassadors are...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

I think a lot of the opposition would at least turn to ambivalence once their realtors inform them of the free 100k of home equity an OL stop would net them. 😂

Route 1 Project - Malden, Revere, Saugus

I think a reasonable argument could be made that not completing I-95 Bell circle-128 was the closest thing to a net loss under Sargent’s moratorium, if only for the safety implications of placing interstate level demand (and driver expectations) on a very much non-interstate standard roadway...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

If the T went to the town tomorrow and said we’ll do an OLX to Wyoming ( or Reading), Melrose would be 100% on board, no? I think its an Arlington situation where the opinions/ incentives RE rapid transit have shifted 180 degrees since the 70’s / 80’s; the towns want it (or would at least be...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

If the FTA standards are unnecessarily more stringent than FRA (l assumed it was the other way around), then @KingVibe may be onto something… Then again, Im not aware of any other RT systems (legacy or otherwise) that has ever normalized sub 10 MPH operation.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

The OL is about as bad as is was just after the shutdown. GPS confirmed 5 MPH the whole way Assembly- Community SB. Honest question; for the OL specifically, was the quality of the trackwork poor, or are the speed restrictions due to the paperwork issue? I don’t know how else 40 MPH track could...

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/04/19/metro/federal-transit-oversight-agency-warns-mbta-about-worker-safety-orders-immediate-changes/ The FTA imposed a series of deadlines by which the T must comply with new requirements or else face a freeze on track work. Around 25 percent of the MBTA’s...

    Golf Course Redevelopment

IMO two things can be true at once: (Urban) Golf courses are a horrible land use. & A landowner should have every right to underutilize their property. However, I think it is reasonable that private golf courses should pay their appropriate property tax, which doesn't appear to be the case as...
