Suffolk Downs Redevelopment | East Boston/Revere

I'm not sure the standard for developing a defunct horse racing track should be that it turns back the clock 40 years. Nobody gets to live in the place they grew up in unless they purchase a home which gives them the right to stay put. Nothing against you personally but it drives me...

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

I also don't get what the endgame is here for the NEAQ. Are they saying the garage should stay as is until the sea rises up to swallow both it and the aquarium? And somehow they believe that will enhance the waterfront experience??? Its like they're trying to create leverage with the threat of...

Suffolk Downs Redevelopment | East Boston/Revere

In your opinion what are these legitimate concerns? I'm asking because going back to the drawing board is code for massive delays and nothing gets built, so what exactly is so flawed with the project as to need that drastic remedy?

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Well I prefer to deal in facts instead of speculation. I'd need to see some proof that the updated shadow law will affect these developments given their location. The only one I can think of is One Bromfield @ 700 ft which would not have complied under the old or the new law IIRC.

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

It violated the shadow law for the Common hence the need for legislative action. The height reduction to comply with FAA limits prevented the shadows from reaching the Public Garden although I believe the developers kept their commitment to kick in some $$$ to the Friends of the Public Garden...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I agree with Massachoisetts, and not because this building is Boston's answer to the Taj Mahal from an architectural standpoint, but because it is thus far the biggest "eff you NIMBY's" building yet constructed in the city! Used to be the absurd Shadow Law was sacrosanct. Nobody could get...

Northland Newton | Needham St. @ Oak St. | Newton

I will grudgingly give the Globe credit here. Used to be every NIMBY was portrayed as a freedom fighter battling evil developers who were trying to pave over the town common. They've come a long way and while they still give too much deference to CLF extortion outfit I like what they're doing...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

So just to bring this full circle, it sounds like the construction over the South Station train tracks is a relatively common occurrence except for perhaps the height of the building although NYC certainly has its share of those. However the delays make more sense about building over the...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Wow, so really not much except for parks and maybe 3 convention centers (including the Hynes).

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

This is a good point. Are there any cities that have done extensive decking over an existing interstate? I've been to places like Atlanta, Philly, and DC and don't recall any...

Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

I think you people have too much time on your hands. ;) It looks fine. Build the freakin' thing already and kudos to the developer if we finally get something built over the Pike for the first time in eons.

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Its easier than that! He should invoke the IMAX rule where apparently showing aquatic films for a fee allows you to block waterfront access and just show Flipper, Finding Nemo and When Sharks Attack on a continuous loop in the building's lobby. The sky's the limit! ;)

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

So you're saying that despite a few inconveniences they've managed to stave off cannibalism? Huh. Maybe its possible here too then. ;)

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

Help me out here transit gurus. Springfield's about 100 miles away from Boston. From reading one of the articles the trains can top out between 60-75 mph along the route. That means at worse the train should get to SPG in an hour and a half. What's up with the extra 45-60 minutes? Is it...

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

They couldn't round up enough NIMBY's? Regarding shadows I agree with the comments here. No we don't want open space completely covered in shade but I agree with the notion that the length of time and time of year matters. Saner heads prevailed on the Winthrop Square development and...

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

More like he should put up a 5 foot tall sculpture of a middle finger pointed towards the Harbor Towers. :D

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Its actually baseless NIMBY'ism. If people truly opposed these projects they wouldn't get built and Mahtty Walsh would have gotten turfed for some anti development loon. NIMBY's always claim near universal support from everyone who's not a developer or construction worker but recent elections...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

Agreed, that height limit is stupid. Half way down New Chardon isn't near Beacon Hill. I'd be real curious just what kind of shadows a 600-800 foot building (or whatever the exact FAA limit is) truly casts on the residences on the other side of Cambridge St and for the most part its businesses...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

Can't the state simply pass a law saying the height on this parcel is up to FAA limits? As in state trumps city, but feds (FAA in this case) trumps state? Zoning variance problem goes away and state maximizes its value. Whether nor not winning bidder chooses to build up to FAA levels is of...
