    Oak Street

IMO the facade of the building looks much better that I thought it would. Someone already said it fits in well, and is respectful of its' neighbors, that is true. I have yet to go by and take photos.

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

That was the Ward Family house, Robert Ward the father, was a Chief in the Coast Guard, he had many children that grew up in the house. I'm sure the land will become a parking lot.

That goes in hand with the news last summer that the Narrow Gauge RR is looking for a new place to move to.

    Elks Club

I hear the Elks Club building on outer Congress has been/going to be sold, and they are moving to Warren Avenue into the soon to be vacated Keeley Caterers/Function building. Rumor has it that Husson College has their eye on the Elks building on Congress for their local campus.

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

The new airport, to management is nothing more than a "SRO people warehouse", until a plane leaves or takes off, they really do not care, or money would have been in the build budget for seating, IMO. Size does matter to them though, seating does not, unless it is for their own bottoms.

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

The China Clay Docks (the powdered clay was used in paper making) were at the water's edge for many years as well. When the market went away for the clay, the docks/warehouses were abandoned, burned, used for storage, and were eventually torn down in the 1990's. The railroad tracks (Portland...

Maybe because it is part of the Western Promenade listed on the National Historic Register, all in part of the plateau once called Bramhall Hill.

Portland - Franklin Street redesign and redevelopment

I walked by the building last weekend and saw that it was being fixed up inside. The location will put it "closest" to the disembarking cruise ship passengers, although it is still a hike from the terminal.

    Thompson's Point, Portland

I don't see the old Union Station train shed (1/5 of it) there yet either, so this photo must date before 1961 when the station was torn down.

I want to thank all the folks here who gave their blessing to use the black & white photos here to be re-posted on my FB site "Portland Maine History 1786 To Present". They have been a source of joy for many folks on that page trying to reconnect with how they remember Portland. Many have...

Old Mobil Station On Brighton Ave.

I honestly don't think Denny's does enough business anymore for valet parking. But the "dealing" at the hotel might very well require someone to direct traffic. LOL Just a wild guess, but, I say another fast food joint or check cashing outfit will go in. Seems to be the norm for the area.

Old Mobil Station On Brighton Ave.

I see where the old Mobil gas station at Brighton Avenue & Riverside Street in Portland is finally being razed. It has been the subject of many photos posted on the internet. It will be interesting to see what goes in its' place.
