MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

The Lynn garage and platform was built in 1992 and is being closed already due to safety. I'll go with substandard construction during the Bulger era of Massachusetts projects.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

CRRC is an established builder (though it is a new factory) I think a big negative to this contract was how much US-China relations have detoriated since the contract was originally assigned. To the point that CRRC likely won't get any new customers in the states. So CRRC isn't going to...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Surprised delta hasn't ordered some A321LRs or XLRs. Those would be perfect for Boston to some smaller European destinations (ex Prague, Dusseldorf, Geneva, Berlin, etc).

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Not sure when it started but delta is doing A to E post security shuttles now.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

And that's where the new mbta zoning will help. I just hope the state gives it enough teeth to make a difference.

Station Landing | Wellington Circle | Medford

There shouldn't be ground parking next to any rapid transit station. Plus the stations landing garage has a bunch of mbta parking that is never full, so surface parking next to the station is totally unnecessary.

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

JetBlue and Emirates are ending their codeshare partnership. This reduces the chance that Emirates will bring back the A380 to Boston (although BA currently flies the A380 seasonally).

    Crazy Highway Pitches

Ahh, I always thought the central artery was underutilized.

The centurion card allows access to delta lounges, so if delta builds one I don't think the centurion lounge would be necessary. Would be nice to get a big priority pass lounge in E (AF lounge allows PP on a limited basis). There's also capital one trying to get into the lounge game.

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

Boston is one of the rare north American cities that has a good bit of "missing middle" housing. (Aka triple deckers, brownstones, etc). You don't need tall towers to allow for density and public transit use.

    New England independence

2020 is a poor reference due to how much money was printed and dispersed that year. 2019 shows that Massachusetts, and some other states, pay more for the federal government than they get back.

Name this US city and related urban trivia!

Population of 70k with a 21% increase in population between the 2010 and 2020 census

Although the transfer from A to E is far from seamless.

Windows are great. Not a fan the interior design. Too many colors (that gold 🤮) that don't mesh and some of the lighting elements are a bit much.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

I don't think there's a large market for this when a Greyhound bus would be faster.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

It was shut down for over a month in May. I don't believe other lines had multiple long shut downs for signal work.

JetBlue and Spirit agree to merge.

No JFK cuts either. Interesting too that united, dominant at EWR, has also cut flights there over the summer. Notably both FLL and EWR have sizable spirit ops, FLL in particular where a combined carrier would dominate. Frankly I'm surprised that JetBlue is already starting to make concessions...

Has branching the blue line to the silver line ever been proposed? Could go to Kendall that way via grand junction.

Massachusetts Multi-Family Requirements for MBTA communities

The commuter rail system has a ton of untapped potential with electrification and increased frequencies. This zoning update will increase ridership on those lines which will hopefully make improvements. And Boston itself is more than pulling it's weight in new developments compared to the rest...

Massachusetts Multi-Family Requirements for MBTA communities

Reading the text of the law, looks like the law disallows communities from making their new zoning overlays from requiring more than 20% affordable components, or other special types of housing (ig senior housing)...
