Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Did anyone attend this meeting or know what the update is? I found this article posted today which says: The “summer 2022” comment seems to confirm the suspected delay of the Medford branch beyond May.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Anyone know how long a “soft launch” typically lasts? I assume this means we’re on track for March, but when will we have enough information to speculate about early March vs late March?

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Could electrified service be viable with dual mode EMUs that have just enough battery capacity to cover gaps under the bridges?

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Help, since East-West rail will be run by Amtrak and needs to use CSX rails.

    General Infrastructure

They definitely won’t if we add more visual barriers like overpasses and noise pollution with high speed traffic. It’s within the walk shed of a transit station. The Station Landing TOD shows that density is viable here if separation is removed. There is an insane amount of space dedicated to...

    General Infrastructure

I disagree with the prevailing sentiment here that an over or underpass is the best solution. Wellington is a chokepoint now, but getting traffic through the intersection faster is just going to offload the congestion elsewhere. The area is served by transit and already has a highway cutting...

    General Infrastructure

An overpass design makes no sense considering that MassDOT is tearing down overpasses on McGrath because of how much they damage the urban fabric. This is an intersection of parkways, not highways, and it’s directly adjacent to rapid transit.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

What are the prospects of creating automated light metro style service on grade separated portions of the green line? It would be a substantial upgrade but allow us to maintain similar station sizes compared to converting LRT stations to HRT. Is the GLX signaling system built to allow for...

Worcester Historic Aerials or How Urban Renewal Destroyed the Urban Fabric

I know there are regulation issues in the Commonwealth around e-bikes and e-scooters, but assuming those were properly fixed at the state level, Worcester would gain a lot of mobility with a program similar to BlueBikes or just allowing scooter companies to come in. I know some people don’t like...

Worcester Historic Aerials or How Urban Renewal Destroyed the Urban Fabric

That's fair. I'm thinking along the lines of major infrastructure projects that would benefit the city and reduce car dependance. For example, the city put $100 million into the WooSox park (which they shouldn't have). Many infrastructure projects are 80% paid for by the federal government. The...

Worcester Historic Aerials or How Urban Renewal Destroyed the Urban Fabric

Are there any threads / movements / discussions about replacing I-290 with a boulevard? Or at least a cap over some portions? It seems like stitching Worcester back together would be the project that could meaningfully improve the city.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

It's better than what's there now but we should be building shelters that are at least somewhat resistant to the elements. They are using a similar canopy design for GLX. If rain or snow are coming in at any sort of an angle there is almost no point in having the canopy at all.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

What could / is the T doing to reduce this bunching? Transit signal priority seems like an obvious one, but this article mentions software that was piloted on the D branch in 2017 to reduce bunching: https://commonwealthmagazine.org/transportation/t-trying-to-speed-up-green-line-trains/...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Does anyone have any insight as to why the E branch was chosen to run on this extension at all? I recall the reasoning for D to Union and E to Medford being that E was shorter. With the E branch running in mixed traffic on the other end of its line, it seems like the Medford branch will be...

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

Is that the southwest extension 2 you outline here: https://www.vanshnookenraggen.com/_index/futurembta/theblueline/ ? Does it make sense for red and blue to intersect at MGH and then again at Harvard?

Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Are there any plans for center running bus lanes down Broadway? Seems like a perfect spot for it given the number of routes going to and from Sullivan.
