Councilor Wu's Proposal To Abolish The BPDA (65-pp. report)

Do all big cities in the US have some similar quasi-government agency in charge of development planning? If not, and if the city council doesn’t own it in those other places, then what other systems are there?

Councilor Wu's Proposal To Abolish The BPDA (65-pp. report)

Shouldn’t the city’s development/zoning be decided upon or at least approved by elected officials?

Boston Water and Sewer Commission development | 923-925 Harrison ave| Roxbury

Wonder what the possibility of seeing that school bus yard at Washington/Cass redeveloped within my lifetime is? Regardless, this will be huge in terms of stitching the South End and Roxbury back together.

Councilor Wu's Proposal To Abolish The BPDA (65-pp. report)

So the main benefit of leaving the board intact would be using them to purchase land? Can you expand on this a bit? What was so bad about the original proposal?

Councilor Wu's Proposal To Abolish The BPDA (65-pp. report)

https://www.bostonherald.com/2024/03/01/debate-begins-over-revamping-how-boston-builds/amp/ Sounds like a big point of contention is whether on not to keep the BPDA planning board separate from the city. Can anyone with more knowledge on the issue explain what the pros are to keeping the board...

    Biking in Boston

If you’re done with it why respond? I re-emphasize that there are tons and tons of things I wish were done better in this area that I don’t have the power to change. I’m not going to stop complaining about them. Thank you very much.

    Biking in Boston

A road diet on the McGrath is nothing? When did I say I didn’t want decent bike infrastructure? Do you always resort to childish passive aggression when someone disagrees with you? Henry described it as “a highway” regardless of any planned name changes and cited the difficulty in crossing...

    Biking in Boston

I’m unlikely to advocate for a change to the McGrath for 2 reasons: first, although I do drive to Union via this route once every other week, I’m a Medford resident not a Somerville one. Second, I don’t have the time and energy. That said, I find your position to be defeatist. Just because we...

    Biking in Boston

I take issue with the bolded. If they’re redesigning the whole thing anyway, can’t we just get rid of this problem all together? Why are we still calling it a highway post-grounding?

    Milton infill and small development

Once again wishing I could pay for single-access to the globe rather than a subscription. :( You used to be able to buy a paper at a newsstand or convenience store without agreeing to have it delivered to your house daily.

    Please stop.

Yeah, weird anti-immigrant rhetoric aside, it’s a disappointingly small impact for the time being. Nice to hear that the state is pursuing additional legal action, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Why is the subway so jerky?

Thanks for the info! Does the T have plans to shift toward any of those less-manual systems in the future?

Why is the subway so jerky?

Is it standard practice around the world to have a person directly controlling the speed of a subway? I’m not one to advocate for getting rid of human jobs, and perhaps it will always make sense to have a person in the front car in case of emergencies or system failures, but simple/regular trips...

Why is the subway so jerky?

I’m currently on a redline train going from South Station to Broadway and it feels like every 5 seconds the train is starting to speed up then immediately braking. It’s very uncomfortable. Update: It’s happened a couple of times between Broadway and Andrew, but doesn’t feel as frequent. Maybe...

    Milton infill and small development

Well, this at least isn't true. The article here estimates the number of potential new housing units at ~1500. In any case, my point wasn't that Brookline is a model town for fighting the housing crisis. It was that the town has put a lot of time and energy (town meetings, votes, etc) into...

    Addressing the nationwide housing crisis

If Hartford, Springfield, Portland, etc. wanted to take a page from Sacramento’s book, you wouldn’t hear me complaining.

    Milton infill and small development

It’ll be a huge middle-finger to Brookline, given all the work that town has done to get into compliance, if the state doesn’t meaningfully punish Milton for just saying “no thanks”.

    Milton infill and small development

I imagine there’s an element, too, of trying to keep property values up. If tons of new, modern, probably “luxury” housing gets built in Milton, then suddenly those 1960s ranches on side streets don’t seem to be worth $500k anymore.
