Which is how it should work. If you don't like how the city permits new buildings, vote Mahhty out. But having loons with nothing else going on in their lives (see Kressel, Shirley), blocking projects because they don't meet their own personal specifications is a recipe for disaster.

The public doesn't have the "right to demand" jack. That's between the city, the turnpike I'm assuming because of the air rights, and the developer. If you let every loon with a nonsensical grievance into the development process, nothing will get built. Especially inherently difficult projects...

@Jumbo, whaddaya mean we can't demand the developer build the Taj Mahal over the turnpike even though we rarely pass by the site and have none of our own money sunk into the project?!?! That's just crazy talk! ;)

You're getting way ahead of yourself with that 80/20 wfh split. Work from home has been with us on a widespread basis for 20 years. It's not new. If companies could truly save millions by converting to total wfh, don't you think they would have done so already? I also don't so how shared...

I'd also add that as it relates to demand for this and other similar buildings in Boston, its pretty common for a married couple of professionals to be earning 200-250K apiece in a wide variety of industries found in the area (law, finance, biotech, medical, even academia, the MBTA ;), etc)...

You people complain way too much! Nobody trying to build over the Pike is going to put up the Taj Mahal during Phase I. The money and ROI just isn't there. Nothing wrong with this development which has livened up a dead space.

I'll say again, as long as graft and NIMBY payoffs are part of the cost of doing business don't expect a Taj Mahal type development to be built anywhere in the city. You can have an expensive design, or you can ask for $200M for affordable housing, park maintenance, and other such add ons, but...
