Middlesex County Courthouse Redevelopment | 40 Thorndike St | East Cambridge

It serves as a big reminder of the futility of NIMBYism. The fantasyland effort to get the building torn down went on for far too long, and now it's payback time! The uglier this building becomes during it's rehab, the more I like it! Turn it into Cambridge's version of the Hurley building! ;)

One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

I don't remember the "old" Kendall square of....what 20? 30? years ago but it is pretty generic. However if it replaced a bunch of old warehouses and axle repair shops then I suppose it's better than before.

One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

It was a dump that smelled like piss. If you get off on that, to each his own is all I have to say!

One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

I agree up to a point. I'm not lamenting the loss of The Rat or Captain Nemo's. However that building did start the trend of destroying the architectural fit of the neighborhood. That's not the end of the world as often one different looking building can work. But that hotel has no relation...

One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

I agree and blame my alma mater to some extent. BU pivoted away from Kenmore to develop west campus and became indifferent to what got built and how it meshed with everything else. The result is a disjointed look and feel. Is it corporate? Is it academic? Is it bohemian? Is it residential...

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

I'll second the notion that isn't it the job of the developers to gauge the market for office space and not random people on an internet message board? If they're wrong that's their problem, right? We had people posting out here 6 months ago who were sure Winthrop Square and South Station...

    Supertalls in Boston?

I thought you couldn't build a super tall in Boston because of the airport. Am I missing something about FAA limits? There's like one corner of Back Bay and a couple of sites by north station that are even allowed to barely scrape 900-1000 and that's it IIRC.

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

The importance of this tower is crushing NIMBY'S. Used to be the idiotic shadow law was unchallenged. Then suddenly it was and the city could build up to FAA limits again. How the developer worked through a thicket of regulations and people with their hand out was masterful and should serve...

    Taunton Development

Build housing! Near new commuter rail stop and bus from NB used to stop there on its way to Boston. At the intersection of 140 and 24. Get it done.

L Street Station Redevelopment (née Old Edison Plant)| 776 Summer Street | South Boston

I also work in asset management and we're being told that when the pandemic is over we're all back to the office. The directive was you're free to move whenever you'd like now but you need to be back in the Boston office sometime this year.

Hope Point Tower (Fane) | 250 Dyer Street | Providence

The finances are a great discussion to have. RI has been stagnant for some time. My take is let the developer build it as long as they're not asking for a handout. Too many times people drive a hard bargain with the state since they're desperate for economic activity (Pawsox, 38 studios, etc).

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

I too would like to see more height and density here but that would require that 1) NIMBY'S don't exist, or 2) they have no political power. As pro development and anti development forces have both managed to elect allies what we're left with is the compromise you see here. The other point...

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

I can live with the architecture here. Took forever to get this project off the ground and I'm not sure taller buildings were an option since neighborhood NIMBY'S went to the mat trying to get the old courthouse torn down for being too tall a few blocks away. With all the community payouts and...

    Parcel P-12 | 286-290 Tremont St | Chinatown

Easiest way to buy off local NIMBY'S. You could propose the empire state building in the north end and if you guaranteed free parking for life for neighborhood residents they would be breaking down the doors of city hall the next day to tell any politician they could find how much they loved...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one, but here's mine (opinion that is): a lot of the predictions that Boston would empty out and hemorrhage jobs were based on the view from 6 months ago when covid was largely raging in the northeast while Texas and North Dakota looked safe...

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Stellar has no actual information that Chiofaro has no ownership of the garage. He's basing this on the assumption that since he wasn't personally named in some lawsuit he must have no interest. Myself and others have given a far more plausible explanation, which is that he's part of a LLC...

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Actually he isn't. He's speculating and always to the detriment of Chiofaro which calls into question everything else he posts on this particular project. I can't speak to his activity in other threads with other developers.

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

A few points: johnny is by and large correct about stellarfan in that he does appear to have a personal problem with Chiofaro. I myself have caught him a few times repeatedly making false statements such as the garage is losing money which he wrote for years. It puts all of his other postings...
