What is the status of Simmons constructing its new residential tower on its main campus?

I wonder how this project will interface with Northeastern's plans to develop their portion of that block?

Boston City Hall was daring when constructed. It was loved then and now it is maligned.

Deliberate ugliness is a long-standing BU tradition: the cement Gothic block, the Sert complex, Warren Towers etc. It is rare to see such a continuity of (bad) design in one area.

To do that would require demolishing buildings. That would not go over very well in the neighborhoods.

I find it odd that this is included in the "Infill and small developments" thread since it is the largest single building built in Chelsea in a while.

Looking at the rendering of the building I don't see that. Maybe temporary.

Nope. I like that the Krentzman Quad area is 1950's architecture, Snell Quad is 1980/90's architecture and South Campus is 21st century architecture.

The last picture shows great "closure" for the campus.

This is an article from Boston Business Journal: Five projects that embody the Boston area's campus building boom - Boston Business Journal (bizjournals.com) They mention projects at Tufts, Northeastern, BC, BFIT and MIT. Odd that they did not include this project.

The BU website says that construction will be complete by 10/28/2022 and the building will be open in time for spring semester, 2023 in January. While they are making rapid progress that seems like a very optimistic timeline.

I would like to see the construction of the replacement facility for Cabot/Barletta that is to be built on the site of the Gainsborough Garage. Given Northeastern's housing needs they may be able to build a mid/high rise residence on top of it. Construction of this facility would allow for the...
