Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Biggest problem with extending to West Medford, other than Medford people hate nice things, will be the bridge over the Mystic. Though if they can build a new bridge next to the old one, that would presumably be less expensive. The other issue is that extending GLX past West Medford will require...

    General Infrastructure

It might have to continue to be a drawbridge. From 33 CFR § 117.591: Of course, the same regulations say of the East Cambridge Viaduct drawbridge, "the operating machinery of the draw shall be maintained in an operable condition" and I'm pretty sure it's not even before they laid continuous...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

No it's not. A navigable waterway is a navigable waterway, and building a bridge over it that obstructs marine traffic is just as illegal as filling it in. And, the canal was built for a reason, which is that navigating around the Cape was dangerous and lots of ships got wrecked. That's still...

Friend of mine reported on a mishap with the trackless trolley overhead near Harvard Square this morning: That would have been even more dramatic if the overhead was still live.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

DCR will never, ever go for a CR stop at Walden Pond. The place has serious erosion problems from overuse as it is, and because the stop would be on the other side of the pond from the beach, a CR stop would make the problem much worse.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

It's important to remember that the NSRL itself requires electrification, because diesel trains won't be able to handle the required grades. So before the NSRL can open, at least the lines that are slated to run through will have to be electrified.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

And yet somehow people "lollygagging" on road drawbridges that have sidewalks doesn't seem to be much of a problem, at least in my experience. Generally when people see the flashing lights and hear the horns they get off the bridge right smart.

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

Kind of annoyed that they're not doing anything about the dangerous crossover between the Main St to I-93 ramp and MA16 westbound, behind the police station.

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

I know the Lexington Chief of Police has testified to this effect more than once. For that matter, I grew up there, and when the MMB went in a lot of the abutters put up fences between the path and their backyards. Within a few years, most of those fences had gates installed in them.

    Underground station layouts

I'm having trouble making sense of this. Is this the Green Line station or is it the mess of former track alignments between Haymarket and North Station? If you click through to the original, it has a higher-resolution version.

    Chelsea Branch Railroad Remains/Route

That's great, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I was sort of half-assedly working on something like this a while ago, basically cleaning up the MassGIS railroads data set, but didn't get very far.

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

The problem here is that Urban Ring will have to eat one of the Orange Line's track locations, forcing OL to move over one and leave no room for a CR platform. Remember that the track locations cannot be moved, because of the supports for the elevated highway, and the corridor can't be widened...
