Because I have family in town, I'm hitting all of the tourist hotspots, and I managed to get down to my wife's hometown of Melaka (also spelled Malacca). There isn't much of a skyline, but the Jonker Street area of the city is lovely and lively with fantastic urbanism.

KL is a funny city. It's densely populated, but its walkability is severely lacking. If you go to Bukit Bintang (a central district with lots of malls, restaurants and bars), it's as vibrant and walkable as any place in Asia. But outside of that. you'll really only find good, comfortable...

I'd argue that Taipei has FAR better urbanism than KL.

Kuala Lumpur from the top and bottom of Menara Kuala Lumpur (KL Tower) KL is home to the second building in the world, Merdeka (Freedom) 118. It was topped off a while ago, but they're still doing work on the inside of the building.

Maybe I'm just a curmudgeon, but I really love to keep a sign in that area, but not advertise for a subsidiary of a Venezuelan oil company. While they're moving it, maybe change the sign to say "Welcome to Boston" or something that will have a bigger impact on the community.
