    Fantasy T maps

I've been to Munich, and I think it's a good parallel, and also demonstrates why I don't think giving the regional rail and subway lines equal thickness is actually reasonable. In the central tunnel S-Bahn trains come every ~2 minutes, it's the most frequent rail line in the city. Outside the...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

I would go 4th or 5th behind South Station obviously, Back Bay, Worcester, and maybe Framingham. But I still think it should have passing tracks, it needs to be a huge pull to justify stopping Intercity services there. Like you said that's not impossible and it would be prudent to keep...

    Transit history/trivia quiz

Highways are counted, but it's only counting journeys that start and end in a zone. So driving from Woburn to Quincy on 93 doesn't count for Sullivan, for example.

    Transit history/trivia quiz

I've got access to some private vehicle data so here's a fun one: What two non-adjacent rapid transit stations have the most private vehicle trips between them per weekday? Data is from April 2026, each station has a non-overlapping radius of 0.5 miles. I should add that the data is noticeably...

Transit Planning $h!tposting (Ideas so bad, they're good)

It's an interesting idea for what to do with one of the three (ish) good remaining alignments through Downtown. I'd say the timesaving arguement doesn't hold up especially well, it seems like it would be about ~9 minutes compared to 10-11 currently, but I'm sure plenty of Malden riders would...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

It's something but the CR needs much more than just cheaper monthly passes. There are too many zones, some stations (such as Lynn or the Brockton stops) should probably be moved to nearer fare zones for equity, individual fares obviously need to be cut too, and some zones should possibly have...

    Biking in Boston

I mean you're right, those are the two options, that either it's deliberate and it's a very stupid way of pandering or it's incompetence and staggering shakey-footedness, and I also think you're right that it's the former. My argument is that it's both evil and pointless.

    Biking in Boston

Who is that convincing? She's still a blue-city mayor who has pushed hard for less restrictive zoning and has been publicly at least somewhat supportive of policies like a congestion charge. So if that is the case it's both idiotic and evil.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Sorry I should have been more clear, no routes are being cut, they're just being turned into regular buses with regular fares. It's technically a pilot but it doesn't have a published end date and frankly the whole thing is just a weird holdover from the old interurbans and less old suburban bus...

https://www.wcvb.com/article/new-mbta-pilot-programs-aim-to-cut-costs-for-riders-this-fall/73281322 Half-price CR passes extended another 3 months, could we finally be getting some fare reform on the CR? Also RIP express buses, it was alright knowing you.
