I typed in "Cambridge Massachusetts 1650" into Chatgpt, and the image below is what it produced. I did it because my ancestor (on my dad's side of the family) immigrated to Cambridge from England in 1640, and I was curious what the town may have looked like back then. The image looks plausible...

To me it looks very high tech and sterile. Maybe after a few years of hopefully some plants being planted, plus weathering of the white glossy walkways, it will look more personable.

I find them amusing. I've laughed out loud at many shown on here. They also get the imagination going, about what could be vs. what is there.

Storrow Drive is important, but if a new set of on and off ramps (aimed towards I-93) were to be added to the Mass Pike at Charlesgate and maybe another set east of there, I think the section of Storrow Drive from Charlesgate to Arlington Street could be eliminated. Add in a BLX line to...

Wow, these are beautiful new brick residential buildings. Why don't Boston and the surrounding cities build something like these? Instead we get multi-colored panels randomly thrown together apparently designed by an Excel spreadsheet.

Let's build it!

Eliminate Storrow Drive between Charlesgate and Arlington St, replace the roadway with retail and community gathering places, and the new Esplanade could very well look like the first depiction.

Maybe the name for this site should be changed from aB to aC. That seems to be where the major action is lately.

The big white stripes slapped all over the place look ugly. Also, the multiple shades of grey rectangles from the doorway to the roof in the last photo don't help either.

Yeah, it was one of the worst pinch points in the entire metro Boston highway system. It had an incredibly short weaving section on the Central Artery Charles River bridge between the Storrow Drive ramps and the I-93 merge, with only 3 lanes of width for cars and trucks to merge and weave their...

We used this type of "weathering" steel on a lot of guardrails as well as on one truss bridge I helped design. Aesthetically it often complements its surroundings better than conventional painted steel, depending on the context. Here's a Wikipedia article that explains the properties of...

I absolutely love this building. Quality materials, and the right colors, all tastefully done.

Thanks for the great overview. The streets in the Pioneer Sq neighborhood of downtown Seaatle were raised up one or two levels from 1889 to 1904. Here's the Wikipedia article. My oldest son lives in Seattle, and on one visit we did the tour of the original streets and store fronts, now...

Seattle did something similar.

Kids don't poop in the grass (usually).

I don't currently have a dog, but I know a few older guys who have a comfort dog, serving as a psychological aid. One guy has PSTD from serving in the Vietnam war and needs a dog in that regard. That is an extreme example, but if license fees are raised then an exemption for these types of...

Heck, I'm a boomer and I like them. "It's the End of the World as We Know It" is my favorite, featured in the film Independence Day.

Something like this, LOL? Photo by Dr. Rosen Rosen:

It looks like a revival of brutalism, although I doubt those exteriors are concrete.

Also, I think the night owl bus service would create induced demand, wherein the usage would increase as more businesses stay open later, as enabled by the addition of later bus service.
