    Book Recommendations

I'm sure alot of us are familiar with this book but thought I'd share anyway. "Boston's Oldest Buildings & Where to Find Them" https://www.amazon.com/Bostons-Oldest-Buildings-Where-Find/dp/1684580390

    MBTA Construction Projects

Yeah, it looks like it's just a modified PBU. It would be cheap and easy to make since there are several precasters that have the formwork to build these. I'm actually kind of impressed with DOT coming up with an inexpensive, straight-forward (if temporary) solution.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

Bingo. To make the decorative steel longer you need to make it taller (it's already a pretty shallow arch as is). This will make it more prominent and "block" the view of the Zakim. I'm ambivalent to whether or not they should have made the decorative feature longer and higher, but I think...

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

But even that timeline seems to have slipped. I'm now hearing goal for northbound is "end of September" where as before it was "by September" or "in September" I can't remember which. Given that they still have not started work, end of September could be a stretch.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that they didn't create a keystone at the top of the arch? I know it's not load-bearing so it would just be for aesthetics, but it bothers me that there's a seam at the peak of the arches.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Work to start on reopening Congress Street soon. The goal is to have half the road open for northbound traffic by September. Not sure what the timeline is for southbound traffic.

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

That's the old control house for the Eversource 115kV substation on Alford St. I don't think that building even gets used anymore but ES won't give up that real estate in case they need to further expand the substation.

I've seen the drawings. You are correct.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

Anyone else notice there was a big fish kill around bridge last week (Friday most likely)? There were flocks of seagulls feeding on thousands of dead fish all last weekend. Anyone know why this happens?

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

It's actually 2 substations along Alford Street. A 345kV station north of the driveway/gate and a 115kV substation to the south. They need to stay. They were identified as "Critical Infrastructure" and that's why they got the 25' tall ballistic fences around them (FERC mandate). Also, ISO...

10 World Trade | BGI Office Tower (Massport Parcel A2) | Seaport

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this, but apparently this curtainwall is self-tinting glass to limit the greenhouse effect on sunny days.

    Charlestown Infill and Small Developments

I don't pretend to know what "Charlestown Voice's" real motivations are, but it does seem to me that you could sell this building and use the proceeds to put up a lot more PSH units elsewhere in Charlestown (or elsewhere in the city). This site is basically on the Freedom Trail. Why not swap...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Flipping through my latest edition of ENR this AM and noticed that B to C Connector won New England Project of the year in the Airport Category.

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

The electric substations are not going away. So you'll drive between a 345kV substation (left) and a 115kV substation (right) on your way into the stadium (if they utilize the existing curb cut). Of course, I'd expect the pedestrian entrance to be along the harborwalk.

    Charlestown Infill and Small Developments

I talked to a restaurateur who lives in Charlestown and he said the building's dimensions made a restaurant tough for the space.

Thanks for all the great photos in multiple threads BeeLine. I can tell you got your steps in last weekend!

10 World Trade | BGI Office Tower (Massport Parcel A2) | Seaport

I drive by / under this every day. The steel definitely looks like finished product (it's coated), but I don't remember ever seeing a rendering showing a "porch" extending out over Congress Street. So I'm just as confused as you are....

    Charlestown Infill and Small Developments

I live in Charlestown now. I'm surprised to hear you say that people don't pick up their dog shit. I used to live in the South End and there was dog shit EVERYWHERE. I feel like it's much much better in Charlestown. I agree with your opinion that it's the best spot to live in Boston....

Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

Update: the steel QA/QC problem had to do with the galvanized coating. Apparently the galvy was flaking off in some areas. I don't blame DOT for getting spooked by that.

Yes. Work will resume soon. I can't imagine how much they're costing themselves in carrying costs. Although, maybe it's not as bad as you'd think because they're leasing air rights (i.e., they don't have some huge mortgage on a parcel they own).
