Evolution of the Prudential Center: 1954-1989

Ahh I did not need this level of mournful nostalgia tonight. I think every identifiable store in those photos is dead. Lechters, Doubleday, Olympia, Software Etc., and Successories, all gone. Loved Software Etc., was one of the few game stores of the era that really focused on PC games. Also...

Sad news from the Canal District: https://www.telegram.com/story/business/2025/06/23/queens-cups-gourmet-cupcake-shop-closing-worcester/84319501007/?tbref=hp We used them for our son's birthday parties and they were always incredible, with amazing gluten free cupcakes. Seems like a lot of the...

Bruins nailed it with the redesign so far. That blown out Helvetica looks like the old signage at the Aquarium when I was a kid in the early 1990s. A very different sort of retro that feels incredibly Boston to me.

Evolution of the Prudential Center: 1954-1989

Welp, there goes my morning. The photos from the mid-90s hit me right in the nostalgia - The Warner Brothers Store! Software Etc.! It's probably a function of my age and when I grew up, but I love these PoMo malls. I know people mock them, I know they're so overdesigned and pompous, but they...

    General Boston Discussion

Just speculation on my part, but I wonder if the World Cup has anything to do with this. Maybe Harvard is planned to be a practice base for some teams and they'll need the fields, which would mean the festival has to be put on pause for a year.

Behold the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the Le Mans prototype that they also have sold road versions of. It somehow sounds even better than it looks (naturally aspirated V12!) And obligatory Rexy shot

Fenway Corners (Red Sox) | 1 Jersey Street | Fenway

I wonder how happy ownership must be that they never actually went ahead with the New Fenway that they proposed in the late 1990s. The current park is already "right sized" and gets to be an attraction in it's own right, apart from the team. I doubt much of the development that was proposed...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XIX (2025)

I love that shot over the South End where you can see clear into Southie (and beyond), I always forget that you don't have to go too far up to get clear sightlines of places in this city. What building is under construction in that shot looking due north in to Cambridge?

    Framingham Developments

I was having trouble placing where exactly on the Shoppers World property that is. My best guess is where the Kohls is off Ring Rd., though it looks a little like it could be where the Walmart is. I can't imagine they'd demo the whole shopping center for this, at least right now.

This Linus Tech Tips tour of a data center in Toronto is a great primer on what these places require:

    3 Oriol Drive | Worcester

Seems like a good spot to me. It's walking distance to an Aldi and Target (and would have been to a Stop & Shop had it not recently closed). Also right off 290 and not far from 9.

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

They had a farmers market going on the plaza today, and I think that's why they focused on getting the hardscaped stuff done first. It certainly feels incomplete right now and I'm more than willing to wait until it's fully done before passing final judgement.
