    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

I was not aware this had been fully developed.... time really slipped away from me here considering the dates on these.... Regarding the building design, that is Miller Dyer Spears (and looks pretty typical/good for them). I believe the setup here was Sasaki would be undertaking the planning...

I don't think this has been posted, but this is the effort and craft of design I would appreciate in every lab building we build moving forward: https://www.payette.com/fabrication/fabrication-feature-ragon-2-0-sun-shading-models/

    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

The plans developed in the early design phases had pretty heavy emphasis on keeping most of the building. I have to imagine that was pretty costly, and unfortunately we are ending up with mostly new construction. The good news is that's a preliminary massing, so expect more to come.

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

This is a little much to implement on a state agency for a private development project with large impacts. It would make more sense to have the developer fund and procure a planning team and design. MBTA may have resources in place to pull from, but typically funding availability, public agency...

I wrote a long letter about 2 months back, and got a very brief, 2 sentence "appreciate it, but it's complicated." response...

    Book Recommendations

Not directly tied to architecture, but this one has been catching my eye recently at bookstores, and I noticed it is now a free audiobook on Spotify with a premium account. A little into the first interview so far and its pretty good. It does include architects in the discussion eventually (also...

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Holding off on the glass color comments until there are inevitable acres of ACT, numbing LED light fixtures, and window shades put up in the interior. However, on the corner window treatment: it's a miss and cheapens/dates the building. If it's trying to be modern, it should define the corner...

A thought experiment I haven't done much math on, but passed my mind earlier: any thoughts on a 30-trip/month pass at a discounted cost-per-ride rate for Commuter Rail? Maybe a similar setup for subway and bus? This supports someone who works 3 days a week in a hybrid situation. I've seen a lot...

    🔹 What's Happening With Project X?

An update on this: some time after this post, I walked by the site, and they had all the utilities and comms painted out. At least for a week now, the site has been fenced off, so I believe an early release package for site/utilities work has been initiated. I still don't see much new info...

(I think) I'm close to the reddit commenter age, and I don't have a single non-AEC friend that hates just about everything younger than ~100 years old. It may or may not be a coincidence, but my girlfriend is the only one that appreciates some Modernism (still against the contemporary stuff). I...

Hood Business Park | 480-570 Rutherford Avenue | Charlestown

Hate to bump, but I don't usually pass by this in the dark/evening light - this building is still completely empty. There doesn't appear to be a single tenant in this. Can't imagine they're faring well on the financials here...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

I parked in the cell phone lot right in front of the new Terminal E, and it's an impressive sight. The only thing I have to complain about from the outside is the choice to use a prismatic paint on the red part. AECOM likes to talk a lot about the choice to use it and how it will look reacting...

Patience. End of October Orange Line will be fine, busses by end of the year. At this rate, the T has proven the past year (under current, new management) that their planned work is delivering results.

    MBTA Construction Projects

I'd find it hard to believe the MBTA isn't going to follow whatever requirements are outlined in the City's regulations, in addition to MassDEP. Anybody that has dealt with soil excavation/hazardous materials knows it'd be really difficult to just stay the course here with not a care in the...

    MBTA Construction Projects

There are mid-year changes frequently. Requests go before an internal committee. However, some of the project funding may have already been assumed as funded by this grant (i.e, "we think we'll get $200m from Grant XYZ") so it might not be the entire $470 million being set free. From what I've...

    General Boston Discussion

2M population and three major research universities, and proximity to a lot of capital/finance, and NC isn't that expensive to live in. I know people that have moved down there for new offers/transfers in their companies following COVID.
