trail8, people do not build towers just for the sake of height (unless you live in Dubai). With all the project that are going up, a 1000 foot tower + a 700 foot tower and then SST, etc will definitely create too much office space that it will provide more office space than needed. The result is vacancy in many of these towers and the loss of profit for the developers. Developers will not build towers that they know will not be feasible due to the supply of office space. Remember this, Boston is not New York. It does not have an endless demand on both residential and commercial space.
 
The Hancock is dated looking. Still nice, but dated. Boston needs a new modern icon. Design has changed. Imagine the custom house tower still being the beacon it was when it was built. think about it.
 
hmmm...if there was ever a forum where i thought I wouldn't have to use the word "noob", this was it.

Well, if you disregard the WTC, the Empire State Building is still the tallest in NYC which is nearly as old as the Custom House and still remains as one of the tallest in the world and I believe the second tallest in the US.

It's almost like the direct opposite of a Ned Flaherty. I would like to see these two in an argument.
