Im going to say:

Gehry's IAC building, the New Museum in NY, and the ICA in South Boston.

It officially opened in January, I think.

How about the New York Times tower? I have mixed feelings, but it's hard to ignore.

As for proposals, there's Nouvel's MoMA tower, his even more gorgeous 11th Ave. building, Calatrava's Chicago spiral...

Among my favorites this year are:
IAC HQ, NYT Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, New Acropolis Museum, and the two Nouvel Projects in NYC. I'm also jazzed about the Siberian Tower that Foster designed, but there's no way it'll look that amazing upon completion.

Here's my thing about Piano: He does details beautifully but when he puts all the details together I don't think they work. I just feel from a distance the NYT tower has way too much going on, but that at a personal level the building really works, which is sort of anti-modern. I respect him for doing this but it doesn't mean I have to like some of his buildings.

I would, however, take the NYT building over the Hearst Tower any day of the week.

Hm, I've never heard anyone saying there's too much going on with the NYT Tower. I thought the knock on it was that it was too simple. A lot of his buildings seem bland compared to other hi-tech architects, but he does a better job of incorporating regionalism. He's the only one of the high-tech architects that I've seen dabble in postmodernism (which is either good or bad depending on your opinion).
