But by doing so, he obscured my point. It was, over time, how we choose to pronounce words evolves. Ron asked, "How was Filene's pronounced in radio ads?" Good question. But, even that may have evolved. (According to one, it should be pronounced "fee-lines".) Who knows how the family pronounced its name?

Same goes for Faneuil Hall. Anyone care to ask Peter Faneuil his opinion?

The answer to the question, how do we pronounce words is the same as the answer to "Does anyone really know what time it is?"
