Thank you for voting in the 3rd Suffolk special election

Thank you to all who voted in the 3rd Suffolk special election.

Regardless of the odds against me, the loss is still hard to take.

Congratulations to Aaron Michlewitz. I wish him well.

A hearty thank you to my campaign staff who worked tirelessly, especially my campaign director, Michael DeRamo.

And, thanks to my partner, Terry, of course. I promise him a day or two of peace before I get into my next project.

To those of you who went out and voted for me, thank you. I wish I had the time to thank each of you, individually.

Oh, right. I do.

- John

Hey John, look at it this way. You've already done more then most of us on this board have done collectively. Thanks.

John - I'm really, really proud of you. And I was proud to stand at the polling booth holding your sign and greeting people.

You fought an uphill battle against a juggernaut political machine. You didn't owe any unions any favors, and you'd never be in their pocket. In Boston, that's practically a death sentence.

You didn't have the political muscle of the democratic party, and in Boston you need that "D" next to your name because the zombie electorate can't see past voting for a non-democrat - no matter how progressive he/she is.

Aaron is a nice guy and seems honest, but he's Sal frigging DiMasi's righthand goon. If he didn't know his boss was a crook, then he's stupid.

People say they want to change Beacon Hill but the reality is that nobody cares. The people in the North End I spoke to all said DiMasi was a wonderful man. Who stole their tax money. They don't care. The outrage vote is maybe 5% of the electorate. The status quo vote is 95%. The fact that you got 20% of the vote as an independent is amazing.

It makes me think that if you want to destroy the machine, you must first join it, infiltrate it, and take it apart from within. You have to be more than the outsider throwing stones. I don't think an independent can ever win in Massachusetts.

Again, very proud that you actually had the balls to take a stand, and you should be very proud too!

Thank you all, esp. pelhamhall for coming out to support me, in the North End, no less!

New ideas and ventures are already percolating in my mind.

#1: retiring personal campaign debt ($18k)
#2: destruction of the BRA
#3: bedtime

Well seriously - 20% for an independent is incredible. Think of it as your entrance into the public realm - you made quite a splash to do that well. Everyone I knew in City Hall and the State House said they expected you to come in with single digits. 20% is quite a chunk of the electorate for an independent - it's no small feat.

If you're not turned off by politics, run again! But join the Democratic party! Don't think of it as a party, think of it as a brand.
