401 Park Drive (née Landmark Center) | Fenway

Flat Top was such a loss. I still haven’t been to their new space tho. But yeah - that whole tech square area used to be incredible new urbanism to me - so much life - mix of old and new buildings - a great success. Really sad it’s all gone.
It's not all gone, I've worked in Kendall for a decade and it's livelier now than ever IMO. But the gravity has definitely moved away from One Kendall and towards the Red Line stop. I do hope that One Kendall can get some of its old life back soon.

The OKS landlord has been very reticent about filling the retail spaces. They have kept it clean and generally covered the vacant windows, but it’s a dead zone.

I just mean that double quadrangle with CBC et al on the lower side and then FTC, Friendly Toast et al on the upper quad. I thought that was called Technology Square as the name of the overall development but guess I was wrong all these years—somehow never knew that is One Kendall! In any case, it was a very cool and concentrated array of commercial establishments, in a somewhat unexpected area. That's what I miss. Glad Kendall more generally is heating up, but I am particularly fond of closed or semi-closed quad spaces that have lots of activity within.

The Blue Room was an outstanding Farm to Table restaurant at One Kendall for over 20 years. (1996 to 2017). It added a higher end component to the CBC, Flat Top Johnny's and other offerings.

The Blue Room was fantastic and really one of the very first urban restaurants doing farm to table. The new Flat Top Johnny's has a pretty good vibe to it, just not quite the same place, though.

The rusty columns honestly look good too lol like the northeastern bridge. Ive always wondered on things that are meant to have the rusted look from the start how do they make sure it stays as just the top layer and doesnt turn into deeper problematic corrosion that starts pitting and flaking? I figured its done in a way so the top layer acts as a barrier stopping it from getting worse, but I’m not sure exactly how. From searching around it said things like clear coating over the rust, oil coatings, or a sacrificial zinc coating. The NU bridge doesnt look like its clear coated so it must be something else.

We used this type of "weathering" steel on a lot of guardrails as well as on one truss bridge I helped design. Aesthetically it often complements its surroundings better than conventional painted steel, depending on the context. Here's a Wikipedia article that explains the properties of weathering steel pretty well.
