56 Pleasant St. / Worcester

That lot is tiny. This would be amazing if realized.

Supposed to be 225 units instead of 125 according to the developer. NIMBY pearl clutching commences.

Encroach on the garage? Negative impact? Please, I work in that glass tower and park in that garage. It would be a plus for me to have more development nearby. I like to take walks, I like to go out for lunch and shop

I would say this isn't the first parcel I would pick for a new tower in Worcester to fill out downtown, but it also isn't one I would in any way oppose.

Doing the lord's work here

It's going to be built in a bombed out dead zone a block from the heart of downtown, and of course some NIMBYs with too much time on their hands have to vocalize their precious concerns.

@ctsketch, did you submit written support somehow? Showing up to a zoning meeting isn't really feasible but as a born and raised Worcester resident who lives not too far away downtown I would be more than willing to send an email in support of the project (and in opposition of the opposition).

To some degree the problem is most people have jobs and things they want to do more than show up to zoning meetings. So I guess we just get people without lives voicing nonsense in opposition to development.

Ooo good idea. I couldn't make meeting this week but I will send a letter for the 2/2 one

I just walked over there. The property is surrounded by parking on all sides across the streets, and the only adjacent structure is the parking garage. Beyond the parking lots things aren't much better. Even more (generally empty) parking lots and a bunch of older buildings that have seen better days. Many of those buildings have storefronts that are empty or don't exactly look like they're filled with high rent tenants. So, 225+ units of housing dropped into the middle of that area seems like it would have a drastic positive impact. This thing just feels like a massive dose of good news for the downtown area... if it gets built.

I'd be shocked if this one gets blocked in any kind of meaningful way. Worcester is generally hungry for any development that makes it look good. They'll get some feedback then move it through especially if the developers grease some wheels with a community benefit or two.

Have there been any major projects blocked in Worcester in the core areas? I'm struggling to name any.
