I had a dream last night that Boston was building a small theme park on one of the piers at South Boston so I want to see that if anyone thinks it is possible to get one.

It's possible. But the real estate would bring in much bigger returns if it were condoized
 
some cities (my own in particular) have laws against non-marine related development on piers and waterfront property....this is not the case with boston?
 
^I wouldn't think so seeing all the residential development planned and already in existence on the waterfront. About the theme park....I agree that the Seaport is most valuable as real estate. But I always wanted to see the old theme park at Wonderland come back.
 
Pier possibilities

Something like Chicago's Navy Pier would be cool on the waterfront, maybe a little kitsch, althuogh I cant really think where it would go. We already have a festival marketplace in Fanuiel Hall and Quincy Market, but a waterfront attraction for families would be nice. But I think there is enough development to make the SBW a lively place without it, although it would be nice to have something else other than convention space, offices, hotels and expensive condos.

Just my two cents!

isnt the city of champions brockton or am i thinking of another town in mass? one of them calls themselves city of champs cause of all the boxers that have come out of there, thought it was brockton.

I was thinking the same thing. I was at Revere Beach over the weekend. The place is packed with people so if they did build some sort of park there I'm sure it would be successful.

Yup, Brockton, Massachusetts, proud home of Rocky Marciano (and I'm sure some others), Brockton Rox Baseball, and some other things...

Rocky's fanpage reads:

there are plenty of unused or decaying piers in Eastie that would be ideal for this.

The piers along Border St and behind Liberty Plaza in East Boston could accomodate an amusement park of some sort for sure.

Last I heard it is desiganted as a port area though. For some reason Massport is reserving this land for possible future use.

i wonder if building a pier from one of the existing beaches is possible and drop some amusements on it. Like Santa Monica or more like Old orchard Beach.

Chelsea Creek is a deep water port^, there are very few of those in the harbor.
 
Castle Island area used to have an aquarium so maybe that would be a good place for a pier. Any half decent day and that place is packed with people.
 
Unfortunately it's currently far from public transit. (A long walk from the end of the 7, 9, 10, or 11 bus lines, especially in hot summer weather.) Might be a good destination for a Silver Line branch.
 
I went to Castle Island on friday and the walk was pretty long. I also don't like the fact that there is only one place to buy food there and it cost a lot.
 
I hear they are trying to build a big amusement park in between Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. I'm most certainly willing to go the 2+ hours to Six Flags New England (and I do realize it sucks, I've been to pretty much every amusement park known to man, including Cedar Point and MANY others).

I'd most certainly go 1 hour to the Connecticut one.
 
Most people drive because there is tons of parking along the beach. Anyway I meant the Castle Island area but more specifically it could be well located behind the State Police barracks and the Bayside Expo.

It`s not really near any ones house and the area is currently used less than the rest of the local waterfront park system.

The area features extensive landscaped beaches with brand new bathing facilities, food vender's etc...

It`s directly across from the park and the roller hockey rink, baseball and soccer fields, its near the T and along the completed section of the Harbor Walk and bike trails. It also has excellent highway access.

Several TOD's (formal or not) are planned or under construction in the area.

It`s protected by Old Harbor but doesn`t seem to create a navigational hazard.

There is food at Sullivans on Castle Island and at the bathing facilities closer to the Expo. There used to be Kelly's closer to L Street where you could dock your boat and get fried clams but sadly they tore it down when they were redoing the beaches.

Also "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler. I think Bill Murray and Jimmy Fallon are part owners of the Rox. Does anyone know if that's true?
