Alfond Foundation $500 Million gift to multiple Maine entities

I believe that Orono/Bangor would be the perfect spot to educate new doctors and hopefully improve the quality and availability of rural healthcare in Maine.

I agree. Access to healthcare providers is becoming a big issue in the more rural parts of the state (and country, for that matter). While this won't solve it, it will boost it.

A few recent pics from the Walsh Center/Alfond Arena expansion......

They need to step up the donation game for Southern Maine higher education.

Meanwhile, down there at Havaad... (science and lab related across the river in Allston)

It should be noted that UMaine just broke ground on their $85 million "Factory of the Future"....the engineering part of campus has really taken a leap forward.

Another updated pic of Alfond Arena/Walsh Center renovation. That roofline is something you don't see everyday in Maine. The origami design definitely looks like it will blend seamlessly with the existing Alfond roofline.

Is the new track going directly behind the end zone shown in the pic? I read UMaine will now have the track encompassing the future football practice field. It would be nice if they could sneak some bleachers directly behind the goal post here. But it looks like that would be a tight squeeze. Even if it was only 500-1k for a student section similar to what UNH had back when "The Dungeon" was their home. Then when Wildcat stadium stands were constructed they moved them to the new stands. Anyway.....That would be a nice touch, giving Alfond Stadium a little character.

With the current (college football second tier) AKA FCS structure, Maine might be looking at being the lone wolf, I mean, bear, standing in a few years. Many FCS schools are struggling to raise NIL money to stay relevant. I am always rooting for UMaine, as northern Maine is the toughest place to recruit football and basketball players in the country.

Yes the link helps. But I don't think it is updated with the newest site plans.

If you look at the picture....upper right is track.....middle is soccer field....lower left is new parking and endzone area. They had planned to have a mini horseshoe shaped "raised"l endzone.....not sure if that is still the case.

They're still planning on moving the field closer to the stands or the stands closer to the field, right? You can still see part of the track at the bottom of the picture.

Yes- I think the field will be moved closer in a few years. It is interesting they already ripped up some of the current track. The current field turf is only a few years old. Maybe next fall they will move the field? Plus the plans did not state if they are using the current stands or new stands when the field is moved.

Yes they are planning to remove the entire track, move the field closer to the home stands and rebuild the visitors stands. Not sure its it is possible to move the current visitor stands which were installed in 1998. I'm also not sure how they do this without replacing the current turf which was installed in 2021. I'm guessing new stands and turf. This will all coincide and revolve around the Morse Arena construction which I believe will have club seating overlooking the South endzone of Alfond Stadium. I believe that Morse Arena will be aligned with the future placement of the football field. My guess is that they get 2 more seasons out of the current turf and that it is replaced along with replacing the visitor stands for the 2027 football season.
