Separating this from the small developments thread. Construction funding has been secured and site prep has started.

What, you don't like? It's Worcester, there's going to be compromises. It's not very far from the Worcester CR stop at least? Might be attractive to some hospital workers?

It will def be attractive to Boston commuters and downtown employees

Mostly this whole development is just a stab I'm my heart. Growing up I went to about 3 weddings in that church and played in that gym countless times. Replacing a beautiful if crumbling church building with anonymous apartment blocks and a parking garage hurts more than a little. Is the housing needed? Yes. Will it make for a better neighborhood? Probably. Can I still be hurt that a place that holds memories for me is destroyed? Absolutely.

I agree it’s a shame for the church. I was fond of the bell tower and facade anyways. Never been inside.

Seems like this and Notre Dame were woefully underfunded by the central church which is a shame because Notre Dame especially was a beautiful building

The crane for this was being assembled today. Didn't see much else besides more site prep.

I'd been inside a bunch of times in the 90s and very early 00's. It was falling apart and the congregation was a combination of too poor and old to do much to save it (and obviously the diocese didn't give a fuck). It's too bad the bell tower couldn't be saved, but the rest of the structure was pretty meh
