Per B&T, Amazon has purchased (leased?) the Necco factory as a distribution center.

This was supposed to be a biotech center - instead its a big warehouse with thousands of trucks/vans zipping in and out. What a let down! And the jobs pay max $15/hr.

Moving this here.

New Amazon facility coming to Revere at the former Necco Plant location via the Mayors Facebook

One of the world’s largest companies and the undisputed giant of e-commerce is coming to Revere… Amazon will open its newest state-of-the-industry distribution center at the former Necco site, creating hundreds of jobs after the company completes nearly tens of millions in renovations in the coming months. Amazon’s historic investment in our community will invigorate our local economy and promote the City of Revere as a place where prominent, innovation driven businesses are welcome and can thrive.

After Atlantic Management and V.M.D Companies acquired the property in 2017, my administration and Ward 5 Councillor John Powers championed zoning legislation, with the Council’s support, that restricted the property’s use to advanced commercial activity, including technology warehousing and e-commerce. This essentially set the table to attract commercial development that will increase employment opportunities and serve as a hub for Revere’s 21st century economy.

When the new center open its doors, Amazon will become Revere’s largest employer and generate substantial commercial tax revenue for the City. We’re excited to work together with Amazon as we continue to move Revere forward as a strong, modernized and prosperous city

Distribution centers need to be somewhere close to population centers; this seems like as good a spot as any. And I doubt that a "biotech center" here was ever actually in the cards.

Amazon's minimum wage is $15/hr, and it goes up from there.
