A Saudi sheikh is testing Boston’s luxury market with a $35 million renovation of the Ames Webster mansion, a historic landmark known for its intricately detailed interior.

The three units, which include a triplex penthouse, are coming on the market later this year starting at more than $20 million apiece, according to Tracy Campion of Campion & Co., the agent who will list the homes.

I just met one of the people handling the construction as an owners rep and he said when this guy flies in to check on construction, he comes in on his private Boeing 777...

Assuming it's one of these guys (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Saudis_by_net_worth) ... $330/mil (Boeing 777 price) is a sizable investment but not hurting your bottom line too badly.

I’ve been inside that building many times, whoever buys these condos are going to have a beautiful historic place to live. Despite being turned into an office building everything was still original and intact, just needed a good polishing, can’t wait to see the results though probably from the outside only lol

Except that in order to covert it to condos, I'm sure a lot of those original features will need to be removed.

It's still better than letting the place rot though.

You can buy a slightly used 777 for significantly less than $330M. The two 767s that Kraft just bought for the Patriots were rumored to cost $10M. I'm guessing to purchase a slightly used 777 would be no more than $15-20M depending on the amount of retrofitting one wants to do.

The carrying and operation cost for big jumbo jets like that are what keeps the resale values down.

Mods, can we update the thread title with Back Bay and the street address?
