Another Mass Transit Fee Increase

At the drop of a hat with little or no publicity (until its a done deal), the MBTA increases daily commuting costs for suburban commuters by $2.00 a day. MBTA parking lots will see increased parking rates by $2.00 a day. Compare this to the huge and very public brew-ha-ha over raising tolls for drivers on the Pike. Its amazing tolls generate such opposition while this increase just slips under the radar with little notice. As a metro west commuter who takes the framingham commuter rail, the green line from riverside or sometimes the Mass Pike to commute, I look with disfavor from a public policy standpoint when environmentally friendly Mass Transit use is financially discouraged relative to driving into town.

So gas prices fall, and the MBTA raises parking costs....
