That's not really surprising... Since to me it seems like the migration into Portland is entirely coming from people who were living in the Boston area.

Many from New York are here because of the food and drink scene. The Hardshore Distilling owner, Tandem Bakery, Twelve, Masa Miyake (though early 2000's), and there are more. It's a much easier and cheaper way to start a food business, and to get noticed by James Beard. It's now competition from maybe 100 restaurants instead of 10,000.
