BHA Approves Six Housing Projects


BOSTON - The Boston Housing Authority has approved six projects that will add a total of 300 residential units to the city?s housing stock in South Boston, West Roxbury, Dorchester and Bay Village. The largest of the projects--a $47-million mixed use development which will break ground in December in the Fort Point Channel neighborhood--will create 86 residential units and eight living and work spaces for artists at 316-322 Summer St. The project, which is being developed by W2005BWH II Reality LLC, will also add 15,500 sf of retail and commercial space.

A month after that project begins, developer 184 West Second Street LLC will begin rehabilitating the Signal Building at 154 West Second St. and 171 West First St. in South Boston. The effort will turn the property into 75 condominium units at a cost of $17 million.

In West Roxbury, the American Arabic Benevolent Association will build 90 senior citizen apartments, to be known as the Cheriton Heights Senior Housing Project. They will be located at 20 Cheriton Rd. at a cost of $22 million. West Roxbury will also get an additional 39 units at 446 Belgrade Ave. as part of a $14-million project planned by Skye Realty Trust.

Ceres-MHP Development LLC, a joint venture between Ceres Realty Fund and Urban Residential, also received approval to construct an eight-story, 28,500-sf building containing 18 residential units, including two penthouses, at 212 Stuart St. in Bay Village. That $12-million project is expected to begin construction in the spring.

Also approved for construction this fall was a 16-unit condominium project at 1-11 Louis Terrace and 615A-E Adams St. in Dorchester. Developer Realty Jab Corp. will spend $5.5 million on that redevelopment effort.
