Boston College Master Plan

It sounds like a major renovation is planned to Carney Hall and the renovated facility will end up being called Cadigan Hall.

Boston College has received a $125 million philanthropic commitment, the largest in University history, from the Patrick F. Cadigan Family Foundation, funded by the estate of the late Patrick F. “Pat” Cadigan ’57, P ’91.

Pending approval by the BC Board of Trustees, the commitment will help support the renovation of Carney Hall, including a 50,000 square-foot addition that will create a central location for the social sciences, featuring the departments of economics, political science, psychology and neuroscience, and sociology, and the Office of Campus Ministry.

As part of its campus planning, the University announced in 2025 that the School of Social Work would be relocated from McGuinn Hall on the Middle Campus to the Newton East Campus (formerly Mount Alvernia High School) on Centre Street in Newton. The relocation will enable the University to temporarily offload offices and staff in Carney Hall to McGuinn Hall and other locations, before beginning renovations to Carney in 2028.

I think the building was planned for demolition several times over the years (see post 726) and the renovations will completely change how it looks.

An aesthetic improvement for sure, not that it takes much.... Wonder if they might consider a bit more ornament to soften the overall effect. The windows, especially, are way too angular for "gothic", but I'll take it. I have been waiting YEARS for something to be done about god-awful Carney! Starting in 2028? Hope I am still around...

Those are both "afters," showing opposite sides of the renovated building.
NGL, I also had the same reaction they did since I'm not familiar with the BC campus - for context, below street view snips are apparently the current building that will be gothicized.

I think it's dumb that the whole campus looks the same. Each building is nice enough on its own but it's downright silly to have a full grouping of them. I had to take a preparatory class at one of the buildings and found the campus confusing for this very reason.
