Boston University - Warren Towers Renovation | 700 Commonwealth Avenue | Fenway

This is costing $550 million already. BU likely couldn’t afford a name celebrity architect. The purpose of this renovation is to modernize Warren to 21st century standards and blend contextually with its surroundings.
Yeah, I don't think a top tier architect would have been useful at all in this project, because the only way to do anything beyond lipstick on the pig would require a complete teardown and rebuild. If the final result is similar to how they approached the law school, then I think that's a reasonably good outcome.

Exactly. Starchitects typically don't do basic building modernization and "blending in" projects.

Have to agree. Whoever it is doing this project they seem to be getting the balance just right of keeping the original vision in tact while freshening them up and modernizing the campus. Just adding a mech screen with a little bit of color already livens them up a bit. Where before there was no crown on the buildings so they looked like they were cut out of another tower mid way up, there is now an end point at the roof. Many times less is more and it seems to be working here too.

Me, the one zoomer who uses this forum.
I'm also Gen Z, I was born in March 2001. I was a sophomore in High School when I first started looking at ArchBoston in early 2017... It's crazy how long ago 2017 feels already.

I've heard of REM, but I'm not that familiar with their music.

... and your post made me go and look at when I joined ArchBoston, and realized it was 20 years ago this month when the site was re-booted in its current form and all the users had to re-register. Hence, why many of us show join dates on or about May 25th, 2006. One more year and the site can buy us all a drink!

How is "Shiny Happy People" not on that top 10 list? It was a pretty massive hit and is my favorite song of theirs. Plus it's got freakin Kate Pierson from the B-52s singing a lovely countermelody!

The older you get, the more you appreciate the value of time…

I’ve been into R.E.M. since I first heard their name dropped on an episode of Full House back in 1993.

I distinctly remember that episode. They thought they booked R.E.M. as an act for Jessie's club, but it turned out they booked an old ladies' folk band by the same name; the folk band took the disappointment in good spirits and played some rock music instead. (Or something like that).
Thank you for the random early '90s throwback.
